Advantages: Good acting, Couple of good actors, Entertaining
Disadvantages: Did not 'blow me away', Quite an extravagant storyline
When the trailors for this film first came out, I have to say it was not the sort of film that I felt compelled to see, nor did it look like the life changing experience that many people decided it was. Sure the effects looked intelligently mastered, but the film as a whole did not remind me of a definate must see.
I say this not because I expected it to be a bad film, instead that it seemed to be a movie I would not be entertained by at all. I have seen very few of the so called 'superhero' movies, and find myself generally unimpressed by the farfetched storylines and the make believe plots.
It is with great surprise then that I actually found myself in front of a screen watching this film. I believe this was a result of a series of bribes and pleas from my friends so in the end, I gave in to the pressure and went along anyway. It's good be social anyway I thought...
It's only just over an hour and half long, so at least my pain won't last forever. Actually, this time length suited brilliantly as it allowed for the correct depth of storyline yet did not drag on for helpless hours while the audience sat wasting away in boredom.
Anyway, the story. To be fair, I was surprised with how bored I wasn't and found myself following the twists and turns with an eagerness that just craved for more. It was not the kind of storyline that you would find in any old film, and did entertain me for the duration.
I watched this as a completely new customer to the X-Men franchise, having not seen any of the previous films, so needed to find the film not just entertaining, but informative so I had the faintest idea of what was going on. Well, truthfully, I would say this mission was accomplished as I did not really find myself megarly confused at any point in the film. In fact, I would say it could stand up pretty good on it's own, and you do not need to have any prior knowledge to enjoy the production.
The acting was expertly executed by all, and I would like to second an expert performance by a certain Mr Jackman, of which, I had never really taken an interest in him previously. He seemed to be at one with the role, and did perform as if he was the actual Wolverine character.
There was also a magnificent role played by Ryan Reynolds, who I did not realise would be in the film. Sadly he was not a member for the duration, but his limited presence was dearly appreciated.
Speaking of actors, I liked the inclusion of singer Will.I.Am. Since reaching fame as a singer of the Black Eyed Peas, I had not yet witnessed ihim in a movie, and was pleasantly surprised with his capabilities at acting.
As a whole, the film was quite entertaining, thoughh it does not strike as something I would dash out to order on DVD, nor would I feel compelled to see it again in a hurry.
Oh, one more thing. Should you see this at the cinema, be sure to wait for a secret scene shown after the credits. Not story changing, but a nice addition nevertheless.
Summary: A good film that should not be rapidly overloooked
