Advantages: Action packed, Strong performances, Fun to watch

Disadvantages: Poor budget distribution, Gets a bit far fetched

I had to write a review on this because this movie went from awesome to sublime to ridiculous.

Prior to watching it under the recommendation from the Mrs I was sceptical, this looked like another fast, blink and you miss it, no plot, load of rubbish movie.

Well I was wrong. To an extent. From the opening of XXX (No, its not a porn movie) you are taken aback by the action that unfolds. It blows you away, its not what you were expecting and you were not expecting to be so involved in this movie so soon.
If you dont want to know the plot look away now.

A risk all stuntman, deathwish hobby master, suicide gambling nutter named Xander cage played by Vin Diesel is playing big boys games with his mates in his cars, parachutes, boat etc (you get the picture) As a result he is chased by the local cops, jumps over a very high bridge and into a river saved only by the fall of his parachute type gizmo. Its all hazy, I know, but stick with it. Eventually he is back at his abode having a party and the bell rings. Actually several guys in black smash through the doors, windows and walls (ok, not the walls). Our hero is captured and knocked out. Still with me? Good. He wakes up in a café. That is where I will leave you to watch the film and now I will bring you back to a bit later on in the film where he has now become agent XXX.

Basically Vin has to eventually save the world from a gas that will explode and send the world to sleep, arrrhhhh how nice. Anyway where was I ?
Oh yes, now here is where it gets very silly, as if it had not been getting silly prior to this point already. At the end, Vin is seen on top of this floating errr thing!! that is racing towards a bridge and Vin has seconds to save the world.
And does he save the world? (What do you think?)

The film is very good. Thats all you need to know. Go and buy it. What?

The characters are well done for this kind of movie, and Vin is excellent as the psycho agent. A better performance than in Pitch Black (Although I liked that too).
The story line is very good, I liked it a lot especially the part that I missed out above (read back, I missed it out on purpose), it?s a great part to the movie.

There is one problem though. Its as if the director said: lets spend loads of money on all the film apart from the last 15 minutes, yes that?s a good idea.
No!! Its not a good idea Mr Cohen, you see that went and spoilt it. I will ask you to cast your mind back to the part I mentioned about the floating thing, do you remember? Well this part where he is going down the river reminds me of a part out of stingray or thunderbirds. For gods sake did the budget to this film get done over at the last moment or something!! Sorry I just felt this really let the film down. One minute I am watching a great fast action packed, high budget action movie, the next I am watching thunderbirds!! I am half expecting Brains to pop out and say: at this velocity we should hit the bridge in T minus 1 minute. Arrrgghhh shut up!!!.

In all honesty this film is excellent and well worth seeing. It could have been so much better though. I challenge you to watch this film and not be impressed. Although it is an action film it should appeal to most tastes as Bond Movies appealed to nearly everyone (If you catch my drift). Dont watch the end though and say: That was a naff ending. Because I told you so!! Well actually its not a naff ending, its just been very badly done. Watch it, have fun, see you the other side.
