Once you have got through the introduction and learned the necessary techniques - and for this the breathing is really crucial - the set changes to a workout area where you can see people with a range of abilities doing the exercises. This is really encouraging as some of the exercises are quite challenging so it is reassuring to know that you are not the only one that is not so flexible. One of the best things about this DVD is that it is really really relaxing whilst still being chall...more

I am going to review the Solomon Yogalates 'Fit Firm and Flexible' DVD WHAT IS IT: It is a mixture of the core firming and breathing elements of Pilates with the stretching and meditative aspects of Yoga. This DVD has a warmup and separate sections focusing on the abs, buttocks and a full body workout. There is also a partner or solo resistance stretching section. It is presented by Louise Solomon who claims to be the first person to combine Pilates and Yoga and the DVD was filmed in Byron Bay, Australia. GOOD POINTS: Unlike many workout videos, this is really easy to follow with Louise Solomon explaining at the very start the breathing ...  Read the complete review

There are several Yogalates workout programs available but for the purposes of this review I'll be discussing my experience and opinions of the 'Ultimate Solomon Yogalates' which is available on VHS and DVD (produced in 2003). I am a little experienced in doing yoga and started to incorporate certain poses into my exercise routine when I was 15 after my father, a judo teacher, used them in his warm up class. I have practised both yoga and also t'ai chi as as I am interested in exercises that help align mind, body and soul. I had no idea what 'pilates' was prior to doing this workout. Pilates is actually a form of exercise created by Joseph Pilates ...  Read the complete review

Following a heart attack in my thirties I find myself extremely unfit. It is a personal frustration as I used to run regularly some years ago and frequently ran half marathons. I also did daily stepping and a keep fit video. I have a huge selection of different videos but since being ill find most of them a bit strenuous. Now, I know if I pushed myself it would get better, but it hurts and makes me breathless, so I stop. So, I thought I was designed to be less fit. Then, my doctor spelt things out: improve your fitness and general health or don't expect to live to old age. Well, I guess when you are told that you have two choices; sit back and ...  Read the complete review

I bought this title because as a dancer it is important that I am strong and flexible. I bought it for £10.00 from Woolworths a week before mother's day the year before last as part of a yogalates kit which contained a yoga mat, the DVD, shower gel and body lotion. If they stock them this year the kit would make a brilliant gift, to your mother or yourself, as it is great value for money. I started doing yogalates twice a week and after a month I was already noticing the effects. My muscles were more toned and stronger and as a result my endurance during my dance classes was longer. I found I was able to touch the floor with the minimum of effort, whereas before the pain ...  Read the complete review
