Advantages: strengthening, toning, improves posture, movement and flexibility, calming

Disadvantages: need to buy a yoga mat, must try hard and regularly, Louisa Soloman is patronisng, will not aid sig

I bought this title because as a dancer it is important that I am strong and flexible. I bought it for £10.00 from Woolworths a week before mother's day the year before last as part of a yogalates kit which contained a yoga mat, the DVD, shower gel and body lotion. If they stock them this year the kit would make a brilliant gift, to your mother or yourself, as it is great value for money. I started doing yogalates twice a week and after a month I was already noticing the effects. My muscles were more toned and stronger and as a result my endurance during my dance classes was longer. I found I was able to touch the floor with the minimum of effort, whereas before the pain nearly killed me. I also felt much taller due to better spinal alignment and a stronger posture. I also found that my manner of walking changed as yogalates teaches you to tune into your body and move the way your body should, and as a result I felt more graceful. After having completed each session you are lest feeling refreshed and energetic, due to the deep emphasis the exercise has on breathing which floods your system with oxygen and this effect is more pronounced if you open windows in the room to let in fresh air. The majority of people breathe incorrectly, usually too shallowly and yogalates teaches you to breathe properly which gave me both energy and a sense of time, whilst exercising and in everyday life. For beginners if you want to see effects you have to work hard. Some of the poses are painful when done with stiff, underused muscles and for the first few weeks you have to grit your teeth and really push yourself to continue. It does get easier after time though, the more you push yourself in the beginning the sooner this is. However when a beginner it is often disheartening to see Louisa Soloman sinking into poses which you can only push yourself half into, and it takes several months of the program before you are performing them at the same level. Also many people find Louisa Soloman to be irritatingly patronising and are put off the video greatly by this. Also yogalates only has limited effects. It will help to tone muscle but will only cause significant weight loss if teamed with a more energetic form of exercise like jogging which will help burn fat. However yogalates is an amazing and effective form of exercise and should be part of everyone’s exercise routine.

Summary: Brilliant and effective
