Advantages: Romantic comedy, sweet!, makes you think (or is that just me??)
Disadvantages: quite old.., not necessarly aimed at men
After seeing 'you've got mail', for the first time last night i decided i would write a review on it as i have thought quite a lot about it today. The film stars Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, both very good actors/actresses, and in this case work very well togther to cast a classic love story. The film is quite an old film and his is shown throughout - although many of the old ones are still as good as the new! I was feeling in quite a soppy mood last night anyway so find the film very romantic and starting wondering myself what it would be like to fall in love with someone you don't know properly only through email.....It also got me thinking about people like on here for instant, who we sor of communicate with to a degree, on a regular basis, but actaully in reality know nothing about them only their 'dooyoo' names and what they like or don't! We could even see the people every day and not know who they are or give them a second galnce...i know certain people who i often give second glances too who i would love to have an email relationship with which turned to reality!!..maybe i'm just getting carried away in the dream world of films were eveything romantically possible is able to happen... Anyway, the film is based around the story that there is a woman called Kathleen kelly (Meg ryan) who owns a small bookshop called 'just around the corner' it is a really personal bookshop which has regular customers- there is also the added guilt trip that it was passed down to her from her dead mother- well a massive book store is going to open, ironically, just around the corner! It threatens to shut her down and quite understanably a fued is created bewteen the owner of the new book store and the smaller one. In their sort of 'parraell' lives they both once went on a chatsite and started talking to a stranger who they become good friends with, and gradually fall in love. Whether in real life this can be calle
d love at this stage is debatable, but as im a real sucker for love at first sight i fell for it!! Well to love and hate someone at the same time obviosuly isn't an ideal situation for either of them! so when the guy find out the story progresses with the result which occur....(i won't ruin th suspense for you! although if you saw it last night, or even if you didn't, im sure you know what happens in the end!!) The acting in the film is to quite a high standard with both characters playing realistic everyday people who are just trying to make a life for themselves, throught their businesses. Another intersting point which made me think about was that the women always says she can never say the right thing when she needs to on the spot, and ends up thinking about what she could of said for hours afterwards. the guy on the other hand does the opposute and says exactly what he thinks perfecely, and then regrets if for agaes afterwards!! i started to think what i was like and which was better and decided that am probabaly most like the women, but on occaions feel pretty proud with my responeses! It also offers the humourous side to most romantic films so as well as making you sad at parts has the ability to make you laugh- especially with the part about all men baseing their lives along the quites for the 'GodFather'!! Overall i would recommend you to watch this film, especially is you are single and just feel like waching a classic soppy love film! For men it probably woudn't be your first choice but i woulsn't say you should definitly rule it out! It is quite long - over two hours - but keeps you interested throughout and wanting the perfect ending! Ayway, sorry if i've been too soppy or thinking too much this review - but what can i say, the film had this effect on me!!
