This is a review of the film. 'Young Victoria' was a film I probably would not have gone to the Cinema to watch, but as my Mum's usual cinema companion was away this week, I decided to accompany her to see this film. I'm glad I did as the film is better than I expected it to be. The film revolves around the early period of Queen Victoria's reign and how she struggled to cope with the enormous pressures placed on someone so young. Victoria was 18 when she became Queen and looked for counsel wherever she could find it. Suave and manipulating politician Lord Melbourne [played well by Paul Bettany] is determined to mould the young Queen to ... Read the complete review

I bought this film for £10 from Asda over the weekend and watched it with some friends Saturday evening. I must admit I do like historical films and was looking forward to watching this film. The film is based on Queen Victoria's early life and ascension to the throne and how she stood up to the courtiers who were motivated into trying to influence her to their politcal advantage. The film shows her early life in Kensington palace which was quite a lonely time for her. She is played by Emily Blunt and unfairly people have said that Queen Victoria was not that pretty. Most people think of Queen Victoria in her widowhood wearing black with a small white ... Read the complete review

On the 24th May 1918 at Kensington Palace, London, a daughter was born to Edward, Duke of Kent and Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg. The child was named Victoria and she ascended to the throne at the tender age of eighteen. Queen Victoria was a bright and vivacious young woman, she enjoyed history, geography and one of her hobbies was painting. Victoria not only spoke German ( her first language) but she went on to learn to speak English and French and later conquered Hindustani so that she was able fully undertake her duties as ruler of India. To this day Queen Victoria is our longest serving monarch, she reigned for nearly sixty-four years and the ... Read the complete review

This review is of the recently released film 'The Young Victoria'. I have always been interested in the life of Queen Victoria, (in fact since I was about 8 years old - many years ago! and we did a project on the Victorians). When I saw an advert for the film and an interview with the leadng lady, Emily Blunt,on the Jonathon Ross show, I knew it was a film I wanted to see. ~A few Historical facts~ Born in 1819 at Kensington Palace, Victoria was the only daughter of Edward, the Duke of Kent and Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg. Her father died when Victoria was only eight months old, upon which her mother placed her under a very strict regime and ... Read the complete review

A well rounded thoughtful dramatisation If I am absolutely honest this is a film my other half made me watch rather than me choosing to watch it, we hired it from Lovefilm and I really did expect a dull stuffy English introspective. Thankfully I was entirely wrong and I have to commend my better half for her taste, what could have been a lifeless period drama. The film shows passion, the script is intelligent, the two young leads give life to their subjects and really give depth to their legendary romance. The visuals are sumptuous, the music appopriate and well thought through and it doesn't dither or spend too much time on the introspective ... Read the complete review
