For one, it's one of the most explicitly (and explicit, as it happens) autobiographical films Smith has made, the film riffing throughout on his own experiences making his classic lo-fi debut Clerks. When you're Seth Rogen, and you're celebrating off the back of the success of a number of films you've been in, but you're unsure of which direction to go in as you don't want to give your audience overkill, then what better idea than starring in the latest film from Kevin Smith, Silent Bob himself, director of classic cult films such as Clerks, Mallrats and Dogma. As a big fan of Kevin Smith's films, I had certain expectations before watching this film. I'm glad to say it met and surpassed nearly every one. Let's get one thing clear from the very beginning: this film is not for everyone. People who are prudish, squeamish, find swearing or references to sex offensive or who have watched Smith's previous films and found them distasteful should probably avoid this. While not pornographic in and of itself, 'Zach and Miri' features scenes of simulated graphic sex and one or two scenes that made even me, a seasoned Smith fan, squirm uncomfortably.
