... if you've got to kill something, you might as well have fun while you're at it. Banjos, car doors and trusty double barrels, this old redneck is in the ass-kicking business. They soon add two sisters, Little Rock and the Wichita to their little family and, after a few minor disputes involving weaponry and car thievery, head off together across the treacherous Zombieland. With the world completely overrun by zombies already, there isn't much to drive the plot forward other than a basic need to survive. Tallahassee...more

Premium Review Zombieland (DVD): The best zombie film ive seen in a while! (412 words)

I had heard my brother go on about this film for days as he loves zombie films and encouraged me to go and see it. I normally avoid these types of films as i have a really weak stomach and hate the gore factor they usually seem to have. I decided to go and see it with my boyfriend a few days ago anyway. If you have never seen Zombieland, it is a comedy action zombie film that is in the cinema at the moment. It was directed by Ruben Fleischer and the total running time was 81 minutes. It has a small but brilliant cast including Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Jesse Eisenberg. I was also surprised to see that it also had one of my ...  Read the complete review

Zombieland is one of those films that is hard to really put into a category. It's got both horror elements, and comedy, plus some romance and drama, but doesn't go over the top on any of them. It also seems to flawlessly slip between them at times, and at other times mix them all up into one. The opening is a classic example. Set to "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica we get slow motion of people suffering gruesome deaths by Zombies, but often with comic twists, like the Zombie stripper, Zombie dads and sons in a 3 legged race, the Zombie Bride attacking the Groom at a wedding, and intentional or not (I think intentional), the looks on many of the people's ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Zombieland (DVD): Kill a Zombie With a Frying Pan?...No Problems! (769 words)

I have always been a huge fan of zombie films and who doesn't love a good comedy? So with little expectations of cinematic genius and more hope for a lighthearted giggle, I headed to the cinema to see Zombieland. Based in a world where mad cow disease has mutated and effected the mass populous, zombies are running wild in the USA and there are few who have managed to escape being infected or eaten alive. "Columbus" is one of the lucky few, with his key rules of survival; he plays it safe to ensure he isn't turned into one of the undead. He is joined by Tallahassee, Wichita and Little Rock along the way and the story follows the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review DisneyLand for the Undead... (690 words)

Occasionally my viewing habits stray in to the realms of 'comedy horror' - a type of film which has been defined in recent years by the much loved 'Shaun of the Dead'. The latest addition to the genre comes in the form of the Ruben Fleischer directed 'Zombieland' which, although comedic, takes a very different approach to proceedings. The story focuses on 'Columbus' (Jesse Eisenberg), a rather weedy survivor of zombie-apocalypse who lives by a set of rules which he has devised for his own safety. After meeting the rather bad-ass and Twinkie-bar obsessed 'Tallahasse' (Woody Harrelson), the unlikely pair set off on a zom-com roadtrip across the States with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Zombieland (DVD): America, The Zombie-ful (1268 words)

Ten years ago, if you'd have suggested a comedy about zombies (a zom-com), you'd have been laughed at. Now if you pitch a zom-com, the inevitable question is "will it be as good as Shaun of the Dead." In the case of Zombieland, the short answer "no". If that's all you're after, thanks for stopping by, come back soon y'hear? Some of the more demanding dooyoo-ers, though, will doubtless insist on a little more detail. So... come with me to an America populated almost exclusively by zombies. We join the adventure as a group of four survivors (known only by the names of the places they lived) meet up... If you like plots, character ...  Read the complete review
