Derek Zoolander(Ben Stiller) is the worlds best male model, well that was until Hansel(Owen Wilson) shows up and beats Derek to the coverted Male Model of the Year Award. Derek is publically embarrassed when he arogantly thinks that he has won the award and goes to accept it. He leaves the awards feeling depressed and goes home. In the morning his housemates try and cheer him up and they go out on the town, however his three friends get a little too over zealous and blow themselves up. Derek decides that he doesn't want to model and goes to visit his family and to work in the coal mines with them, but even they reject him. Meanwhile Derek, who isn't the smartest person is in trouble, Mugatu, a top designer is angry because the Malaysian president wants to stop child labour, which is how the industry get their clothes made. They brainwash Derek to assainate the president at a fashion show. However Matilda (Christine Taylor) is a journalist and knows what is going to help Derek to stop Mugatu.

Zoolander is a satrical look at the fashion industry, from the outragous outfits, especially Mugatu's outfits, the lifestyle etc however, it also criticises the industry, particarly in the downfall of Derek Zoolander. Aside from that this film is far from serious. It is bright and colourful and a lot of the time downright silly but is an entertaining film. The characters are all over the top, which fits with the mood of the film well and also makes the film a lot more funny and is packed full of cameos. The direction is also good and moves the film along nicely. The exaggerated costume and props add to the humour. This film is an interesting watch I would recommend it if you don't mind an hour and a half of mindless entertainment.
