Advantages: variety and non linear
Disadvantages: complicated
adobe premiere pro is simply the best program available if you want to edit video footage at home. It can be purchased on its own or as part of the adobe creative suite.... although with a four figure price tag you need to make sure you are going to use it!
The software features a recommended minimum of 1gig of RAM to run, and i back this up. i orignally run on 512 MB and it just couldn't cope.
it goes well beyond the capabilities of windows movie maker, and allows for non linear editing - so that you don't have to put everything on the timeline in sequential order, allowing for far easier editing and more freedom to more things about.
the amount of effects it has are staggering. there are hundreds of different audio and video effects and transitions, all with ultimate controlability - from balancing colours, to providing screen wipes and reducing noise.
one thing though - this program is not for beginners. its price tag puts it in a more professional market, and its technical layout fits that too. with so many boxes it is best run on two or even three monitors, and if you are new to the program then i strongly recommend buying a manual or the dummies guide to the program or you'll be tearing your hair out at how to use the software!
great - but best for those seriously interested in video
Summary: good, but not for beginners
