Advantages: A professional package a home PC prices., Easy to use, and get down to some serious editing.

Disadvantages: Could be bugged!!! Not used enough to be 100%, Not as precise as it could be.

Pinnacle has been producing one of the best video editing packages for a while now. Definately one of the best I've come across, and the latest Version 9 is a good addition. Giving anyone the ability to edit their own movies and burn them to CD or DVD, or even put them back onto video tape, if you prefer that old fashioned approach.

Very much a packaged designed for the home user, Pinnacle is relatively easy to get to grips with, and has not changed very much from the previous releases. In fact this version is probably easier to use once you get used to it, which takes no time at all. If you are familiar with previous versions, or familiar with other editing packages, then this will be a breeze to you.

The software does what most editing packages do, and some! So you have the ability to capture video directly from an input source, with an new facility for capture in widescreen. The software can recognise that you are inputing in a widescreen format, and accomodate for that in the capture which I found to be a nice touch. Then its business as usual, dragging and dropping your clips onto the timeline. This can be a bit fiddley at times, and could be made easier, but then again that is my gripe with many home based packages rather than high-end professional packages.

There is the facility for the software to take the hardwork out of your hands. This is something I personally don't use, and don't like very much. But it is still a clever way of achieving quick results, if you are willing to compromise any artistic input. The software can go away and splice your scenes together, add transitions, and fit the video to the soundtrack. Not always the best results and in fact a bit of a gimmick.

The updated and improved facilities are quite impressive on this version, and the end result is a very professional looking product, despite my reservations about some of the aspects of the package. I did come across some clitches in my first video piece I made, lost clips, and sound messed-up a bit. These problems may have been down to the clips I used, and compatability problems, I cannot be a 100% sure.

Overall however, I found the Version 9 was a good package, and worth the money for what you are getting.
