Advantages: Can download lots of different mp3's and podcasts from one location

Disadvantages: Bloated software making it almost useless on anything other than a super computer

Itunes is the standard software required for anyone who wants to transfer files from their ipod to their PC. However, it's not just a piece of software for transferring mp3 files, but also allows users to browse the ipod servers and download anything from mp3 audio tracks to podcasts.

As the owner of an ipod Shuffle I have tried tried tested the software on several computers however due to the inconvenience I have stopped using it.

Installation of Itunes will either run smoothly or one can run into a lot of difficulty. I have only attempted to install it on Windows XP, however on one computer while the installation completed and I could run the itunes software, on the other computer no matter how many times I attempted to install it, it just wouldn't run. I found forums on the internet describing the problem but no actual solution resulting in an extremely frustrating experience.

Now onto the software itself, to sum things up itunes is a resource hog even on some of the latest PCs, it uses up large amounts of ram and even when it's not running in the foreground, itunes is still running some services in the background.

The only benefit of itunes, is the ability to access a wide range of podcasts from one location. Everything is easily accessible and I have been able to access many podcasts that I would have not otherwise been able to find.

However, despite this positive, itunes still feels like a major piece of bloat ware using up all the PC's resources. As a result I use mediamonkey instead. I can't really recommend Itunes, Apple should reconsider redesigning the software to be faster and more efficient.
