Advantages: Good features, easy layout, easy to understand, good online forum will help you out.

Disadvantages: problems with upgrading, not to good with 3D.

Lots of people have a love for video games and lots of people can tell a bad game from a good game. If you play a bad game (or any game for that matter) a good player will know automaticaly what can be done to make the game better. Sadly its not as easy as thinking about how the game can be better as you must also find ways to develop a game yourself.

Thats where Mark Overmars Gamemaker software comes in. Gamemaker offers anyone with basic computer skills the chance to develop great games easily. You dont have to spend loads of time learning how to use it as basic tutorials can be found on yoyogames.com. When you have finished making a game with the software you can do anything with it. You can put it up on your website or even sell it (as long as you own the rights to all the graphics and sounds).

Gamemaker 7 comes in 2 versions on version is the lite version which is available for free download from yoyogames.com. The second version is the pro version which unlocks access to more functions and features as well as the possibility to modify GM with extension packages. At the time of writing this review the licence for the pro version was just £10

So, my review. I had no problems with this software when I used the lite version and found it fairly easy to use and understand. The pro version is identical to the lite version apart from the extra features. When I upgraded to the pro version it worked fine. I payed my £10 and was sent an activation code for the software which I entered and I unlocked the pro verison. However the next day I found that the software had reverted it self back to the lite version and I had to input the code again. I looked up this problem on the internet and found that it was quite common. When I purchased my new laptop I had to use the code again and it had the same problem however when I went to input the code the next day I had a message saying that that code had been used too many times. I emailed the company and they gladly gave me more unlocks, so thumbs up to them.

over all my experience with the software has been great I have made a few 2D games but dont feel confident enough to try and make a 3D game as Mark Overmars has said himself that game maker was not designed to make 3D games. This software is amazing and I do think that you should download the lite version and test it out for yourself. Thank you.
