nickn5 National Museum From Musical Clock to Street Organ (Utrecht, Netherlands): ... Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement (Museum From Musical Clock to Street Organ) in Utrecht is one of those well-hidden gems of a tourist attraction that no-one ever seems to have heard of, unless they happen to be mechanical music / vintage rally enthusiasts. The name, even translated, might not mean a great deal to a UK audience, and the location, in Utrecht, means it is off the over-beaten track worn between ...

Absy_Baby Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel
... Chapel - The Sistine Chapel was commissioned in 1475 by Pope Sixtus IV and this is where the name comes from too. It was designed for the Pope, as his chapel and is still used as today. The Papal elections also take place within the walls of the Sistine Chapel, and the important ritual of Conclave. The entrance to the Sistine Chapel is not visible from the front (or what I call the front - St Peter s Square) you must walk round the walled state going right. I would say the entrance is virtually half way round the entire state (so directly half way from the entrance at St Peters). I would call this the back. The entrance is quite large and seems purpose built for...

amullett Lithuania National Art Gallery
... National Art Gallery is something that Lithuania had been missing as a European capital city because there was no central place to display national art works in a gallery of this size. Now of course, this huge gallery has all the best works of the country s artists on display. Friends of mine in the industry say this is a tremendous venue (I liked it when I was there because I saw the art - good enough for me!) and it will be wildly successful. The gallery is spacious and large, having 12 display rooms - 10 smallers ones, one multimedia display room and a huge feature exhibition area for special shows. The interior is very nice and sober, giving you full attention...

dangaroo Wilanow Palace Museum (Warsaw)
... Wilanow Palace Museum lies in the south of Warsaw, not too far away from the city boundaries. It s easily reachable by bus with the best option being the 180 - this is a bus line that is dubbed the "tourist route", in fact it is used mostly by locals but it happens to connect the majority of the cities interesting sights. Wilanow Palace is the end of the line. Get off the bus, cross the road, walk through a small side street and there you are in a park often home to an old guy selling annoying novelty items! Stroll through the park come woodland area and you will get to the main gates of Wilanow Palace, entrance is 5zl to the grounds and guided tours of the...
