koshkha B.M. Birla Science Museum (Hyderabad, India): ... Birla family of super-wealthy industrialists have two key areas of philanthropic activity; they build gorgeous Hindu temples and they support the growth and development of Indian science through by building science museums, planetaria and institutes and endowing prizes for young scientists. Our morning of general Birla-ness in Hyderabad had started with a visit to the Birla Mandir temple before we moved on to ...

... visited the science museum just over a year ago whilst backpacking. i travelled by underground and was easily able to find the museum! The museum is open from 9.30 until 4.30pm and entry when i went was 600yen/£4 (this was about a year ago so price may have changed a little) I found the museum very interested with about 5 different floors each with a different theme to explore. This included things like energy, atoms, light illusions, motor construction, the earth, robots, computers and DNA. The museum is mainly aimed at kids, and whilst i was there, was very busy with visiting school trips! there are lots of hands on experimenting for kids to do from riding a bike t...

... visited Hong Kong in May 2009 and during that time, I visited the Kowloon Walled City Park and Museum. If you are ever on holiday in Hong Kong, I strongly suggest that you visit this fascinating attraction. The park and exhibition is on the site of a former notorious walled city, as the name suggests: A former fort, the walls were once broken down and used during the Japanese occupation to build the old Kai Tak airport. Later, this area became a lawless, ungoverned slum, with buildings packed so tightly together that it def...

... Imagine if OUR National Museum was in Birmingham Bhutan s National Museum is located not in the capital city of Thimphu, but in the second city of Paro. It s located in a round building which started life as the watchtower for Paro Dzong, the fortress-monastery that sits below it on the hillside on the outskirts of Paro. It was built in 1641 and converted into the National Museum in 1968. Normally the museum would be visited on the same day as the Dzong, but our first day in town was a Monday and the museum is closed that day. Consequently our visit was taken after climbing to see the Tiger s Nest monastery and before leaving for Thimphu. Sitting in the car on the way ...
