Advantages: Great art exhibits

Disadvantages: Needs a new paint job in places

The Pompidou Centre stands out like a big wart in the middle of some lovely Parisienne buildings, its inside out design with all the pipes and escalators on the outside and the once bright colours which now are in need of a touch up is in stark cntrast to its surroundings, designed to revitalise that area of Paris known as the Beaubourg quartier it has achieved its objective with lots of nice art shops mixed in with tourist cafes and tacky gift shops.

The main reason to go inside though is the Musee National D' Art Moderne which has an excellent selection of modern art works and on that basis the Pompidou Centre is a fitting home and design. Entrance was about 15 euro which included entrance to the mueum and the temporary exhibits and there is loads to see and it can take a goood afternoon at least and longer if you have a real interest.

I love the work of Jan Miro and there are some great pieces on display including the Bleu series of paintings, you will also find work from Picasso, Matisse, Derain and Dada to name but a few. I also wanted to hunt out the Kadinsky works as I have a couple of his prints.

The rooms are all nice and airy and there are lots of innovative pieces on display as well as some quite adult content in some areas so thoise with younger children need to bear this in mind.

There is a wonderful book shop and gift shop and also afew places to get food and drinks as well as a arooftop restuarant which actually looked far too windy and cold on the terrace and also pricey.

It does get crwoded with school parties and tourists so be prepared to deal with crowds unless you get very lucky on the day however it is worth the hassle as there are some great exhibits and lots to see as well as sme nice views of Paris.
