Newest Review: ... Lawrence Weiner. Weiner is best known as a conceptual artist, and has argued since 1968 that the actual construction of a sculpture is not essential to its existence. Hence, his works consisted of paintings in German and English describing sculptures, which have been painted directly onto the gallery walls. The Guggenheim foundation have been able to attract an excellent collection of contemporary artists to the Berlin gallery. The German Guggenheim Museum is located on Unter den Linden, in the former East Berlin. Cofunded by Deutsche Bank and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, the gallery consists of a small exhibition space on the ground floor of the Deutsche Bank building, and is the newest of the five Guggenheim foundation galleries. The exhibition space, while small, is well lit, and plays host to three or four exhibitions per year, often specifically commissioned for the gallery by an artist.
