Le Louvre Paris ... art gallery and museum in the world. The Louvre has a long history of artistic and historic conservation, from the Capetian dynasty until today. The building was previously a royal palace, and is famous for holding several of the world's most prestigious works of art, such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, The Virgin and Child with St. Anne, Madonna of the Rocks and Alexandros of Antioch's Venus de Milo. Located in the center of the city of Paris, between the Rive Droite of the Seine and the rue de Rivoli in the Ier arrondissement, it is accessed by the Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre Metro station. The equestrian statue of Louis XIV constitutes the starting point axe historique, but the palace is not aligned on this axis.

I have always felt a bit guilty that on my previous visits to Paris I have never visited the Louvre, this time as we were in Paris over a weekend we decided to visit on the Sunday as it is free entry, this does mean that it is very busy but given that we wanted to see the main exhibits only we knew it would be crowded anyway. If you wanted to see everything in the Louvre then you would need a few days as it has a 400 metre frontage along the Seine and it is huge in cale, the entry is very impresive with the glass pyramid pushing is tip through the concrete square outside and providing an impressive very light effect in the main concourse which has book shops ...  Read the complete review

I cant believe no-one has written a review on this wonderful gallery and museum of art. It boasts over 35000 works of art including Davinci's Mona Lisa. There are various floors with many other departments including greek and roman antiquities, eastern antiquities, prints, paintings, decorative arts, islamic art and sculptures. The galleries are often packed and its a hastle having to queue for many of the works. If your a keene art lover and just like to sit and watch the silences are often disturbed by talking groups.
