To qualify the above, the Natural History Museum's only open till lunchtime on Saturdays, so we were surprised to find on our first attempt to visit that it's closed on Saturday afternoons. Having a great interest in the wildlife of the Mediterreanean, and in that of Crete in particular, we made a second trip to the Museum the next day. The Muesum is located about a 10-15 minute walk from Heraklion's town cente. It's in an attractive location on the sea-front, in a pleasantly modern building made on the outside of smoked glass and green-painted tubular steel.
