I was not particularly impressed with the number of museums and art galleries in central Marseille. However there are a few that I did find interesting, and definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Marseille with some time to kill. Musee Cantini, for example, has some great modern art, whilst the Musee d'histoire (located beneath the Centre Bourse shopping centre) has some great ancient artefacts, including the worlds best preserved hull of a boat from the 6th century, and the ancient remains of what used to be the port in the Hellenic period.
