Located at the north end of Museum Island in central Berlin, the Pergamonmuseum is in one of the few areas of the city to escape bombing in the Second World War. Built in the early twentieth century, the museum is home to one of the best known collections of antiquities in Europe, and takes its name from the largest and most impressive exhibit – the Pergamon altar in the main hall of the museum.
