Advantages: A fun few hours for all the family especially the fans of the strange!
Disadvantages: None that I found
If your into the slightly strange you may have seen the TV show Ripley's Believe It Or Not or you may have at least heard of it if the norm is more your thing.
My boyfriend is into the strange, likes watching weird videos on the internet and interested in all historical but slightly strange treasures so when we spotted Ripley's Believe It Or Not Odditorium in New York he was pretty keen on going inside.
Its situated in Times Square next door to Madame Tussauds so is easy to get too if your in Manhattan.
The full address is 234 West 42nd Street (between 7th & 8th Avenues)
New York, New York 10036
The odditorium itself is full of treasures that Robert Ripley collected on his travels across the globe in the early 20th century, these include a collection of shrunken heads, pickled heads in jars, an albino giraffe and a two headed calf amongst many more from the exhibitions on weapons, the bizarre natural world and sexual rituals from the eastern world.
Some of the exhibits will make you jump, some will make you squeal and others will make you laugh but the museum is suitable for people of all ages although very young children may not like some exhibits and might get a little bored walking around so I would personally recommend 5 years and over for children that are going.
It took us over 2 hours to walk around slowly looking at everything and it only cost us $20 to get in after watching a side show outside of one of the staff eating fire which entitled us to a discount voucher and I felt it was good value for money for all the things we saw plus on the way out we got to see a nail being pushed up the hosts nose with a hammer! What more could you possibly want?
I would recommend going here if you have some spare time in New York City especially if your weighing up going here and next door (see my review on Madame Tussauds) as this is the much better choice and is cheaper too!
