Newest Review: ... shops is really neat and clean and they are all of a similar frontage which gives the area its continuity, which it really needs, otherwise it just wouldnt work! We stopped off at the New York Yankees shop, and was pleased to see it's merchandise is as overpriced as football teams stuff is back home, $95 for a jersey, I dont think so.... But all the stores are very neat and tidy, mirroring ... more

Picture this if you will: Its a hot sticky August day in NYC, and you need some relief from the suffocating heat of the metropolis, but you dont want to wander round some dark and dingy museum all because it's got air con. My advice to you then is to hit South Street Seaport. I was really surprised when we stumble upon it (in search of water). The cobble streets and quaint New England style architecture borders on making you feel like you're in a toy town, but it just manages to redeem itself some how by not having kiosks and booths and noone is dressed up as a sailor or pirate. The parade of shops is really neat and clean and ... Read the complete review

Doesn’t quite have the same ring, does it? Ann M Martin really does have a lot to answer for. If you don’t know who she is that doesn’t really matter, just take it from me, this woman is evil. Well maybe that’s a little harsh, after all I loved her books when I was younger, but did she really have to write so many set in New York City? That’s the problem, you see – before I left for the States I re-read lots of books set there for ideas of things to see, and thanks to one of hers, South Street Seaport was on my list. It’s not that bad really (you can tell that from the star rating alone) but it was no where wonderful as ... Read the complete review

Only a short subway ride from Midtown Manhattan, South Street is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of other areas in New York. It is a small area with the main attraction to me being Pier 17. Here there is a mall with a great food court and the biggest novelty is the outdoor seating. It's made to make you feel like you're on a ship overlooking the East River and the amazing structure of the Brooklyn Bridge. This area is also the launch for the 1 hour Circle Line cruise around the southern tip of the Island. Now this I would say is a Must. It gives a whole new perspective on Manhattan as well as getting you up close to the Statue of Liberty without ... Read the complete review

South Street Seaport is hailed as being one of *the* interesting areas, especially if you have kids. Personally, although i've been there a few times, I'd be happy to give it a miss. At the far south of the Island, it is a redeveloped and so relaitvely new area where there is a mall (yet another one) and some old seafaring vessels as well as it being the place to catch the ferry to the Yankees stadium (now that *is* an experience!) South St Seaport was conceived to revive the waterfront which was so vital a part of New York's past. There are a number of old vessels moored there that you can walk around on. not something that does much for me, ... Read the complete review
