makeuprox Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery: ... visited this museum in the Summer for the Bansky vs. Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery exhibition. My parents live nearby and we went on a day trip to see it. The queue looked pretty long but it was a sunny day and we were happy to wait. It wasn t too long of a wait and we were quickly and efficiently moved into the main exhibition. Banksy had taken over the main atrium and also a long side room. There wer...

makeuprox Royal Academy of Arts (London)
... Royal Academy is located in a stunning building in a courtyard off Piccadilly which is a right in the heart of London. The courtyard is often used as a space for art and currently houses a sculpture by Anish Kapoor whose exhibition is currently showing. The building is beautiful with big sweeping staircases and a very elegant facade. Inside the exhibitions spaces are generously sized and can house large works (like the aforementioned Kapoor). There is no permanent collection and so there is a regular programme of temporary exhibitions. These can be of modern, living artists or of older artists (Modigliani & Monet have both been featured here). The RA also ho...

makeuprox National Portrait Gallery (London)
... NPG is right round the corner from the National Gallery but I think is just as worthy of a visit. The NPG houses portraiture from the Tudors right up to modern day and actively commissions work. The collection is arranged in chronological order and I probably spend the most time in the contemporary collection. Obviously the older rooms are full of paintings but the newer rooms include sculpture and photography as well. The NPG has a regular temporary exhibition, past highlights include David Hockney, Annie Leibovitz and Gay Icons. At the moment they have an exhibition with 60s photography. Although the gallery is free to enter, these temporary exibititions attra...

... ve always loved this museum since I was a child. This is a museum of the people and for the people. It covers decorative arts from antiquity to present day. This means there are rooms full of ceramics, glass, sculpture, tapestries, fabric, fashion, design, furniture and more. As a child I loved a giant bed which could sleep up to 7 people! Now I love the fashion galleries and the newly opened theatre gallery which is full of costumes, set design, posters and more telling a theatrical history of London. The V&A have regular exhibitons of photography, fashion, specific movements in art and more. In recent years I ve see Diane Arbus, Lee Miller, Kylie s costume...
