Advantages: Great place to visit
Disadvantages: Not for Kiddies
I first found the website for this museum whilst hunting around on the internet for interesting places to visit in Cornwall and put it on my list for a trip last spring as it appeals to my interest in folklore and Paganism.
We stayed in Boscastle and went here on a Saturday afternoon. The museum can be found just off the High Street and the owners have done an amazing job after the building suffered damage during the floods of 2004 and it boasts the biggest collection of Witchcraft and Magickal exhibits in the country.
I was expecting to be a little spooked and I was not disappointed! Among the artifacts on display are antique voodoo dolls complete with pins sticking out , demonic statues, ancient stuffed cats that were witches familiars in their former lives and a calvalcade of blackened cauldrons and fortune telling equipment.
Most disturbing here are the collection of medieval torture equipment used to force confessions from alleged Witches during the Middle Ages. Many of them are displayed to demonstrate how they worked using skulls and skeletons. There is also a special section devoted to Magician Aleister Crowley which is pretty unique,
The museum is open April-October and I suggest you search up the website to get a feel for what is there. I would not recommend taking the kids on a day out here but for grown ups it is a fascinating and informative day out.
Summary: One of Cornwalls best attractions
