Advantages: Good exhibits, good value, much loved.

Disadvantages: Clash of styles, bad cafes.

Dinosaurs may have been extinct for 65 million years but their current habitat (the natural history museum) is evolving fast.

Many of the dry old exhibits have gone to be replaced by newer interactive ones. In fact the new museum is a curious mixture of the old and the new. Theme park style attractions have been placed alongside fossilized bones and Victorian architecture. The effect of all this on the eye and on the emotions is uncertain. It is a bit like watching your dad try to dance at a disco.

Apart from this clash of styles the museum is very good. I took my wife and 2 children down last May and we all thoughly enjoyed the day.

If you decide to go then I can give you 2 small tips. Firstly, don't expect to see everything in a day. And secondly, take a packed lunch (the queues for the cafes were endless)

I went first when I was 5 and then, last year (24 years later), and couldn't believe the advances made in the NHM! It's well worth a visit.
