the winter gardens is the best museum is sunderland. it is located in the city centre, at the end of a long street of shops, which could be why it has so many visitors, apart from the fact that there is no entrance fee.

not only is it a museum, but it has an art gallery, and an end section which is a huge glass see through dome with various plants and trees growing. in this dome, you can go in a glass lift and go although the tree top wlk to a look down at the big exhibition of plants.

the museum has many eras to it, and mainly focuses on the history of sunderland such as coal mining, and past lifestyles of the 19th century. there are also parts about the ship building on the river wear and what part sunderland played during the world wars, and in fact, the winter gardens was bombed during the world war.

behind the museum is a large park, with a lake and grass areas, which plays a part in the christmas lights ceremony where the huge spectacular firework dispaly in held.

there is also a gift shop where you can buy items to remember the museum by and things about the history of sunderland. the only bad thing about the museum is because it is free, it can become over corwded, but apart from that it is great.

Summary: a great day out for the whole family
