Tate Modern which opened in 2000, is part of the Tate collection of galleries which includes Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St.Ives.
It is a worldwide famous gallery that attracts visitors from all over the world. It is situated in the south of london, alongside the river Thames, with the nearest stations being London Bridge and Southwark.
The entrance is free, so it is definately worth a visit, although there are donation boxes situated around which suggest a £3 donation.
The gallery is home to worldwide famous artists from 1900 to the present, such as Rothko and Picasso and is host to varying exhibitions throughout the year (these are charged at a fee).
There are free guided tours available, and also a personal multimedia guide which is available in multiple languages, French, Spanish, Italian, German and English. The gallery has 7 floors and also host to a restaurant, bar and cafes. There is also a Tate Boat which can be used to visit Tate Britain further along the river.
What I love about Tate Modern is the design of the whole building which in itself is a masterpiece. The inside will have you fascinated with large spaces such as the Turbine Hall which can be seen from floor level or from level 5 through the glass...beware if your afraid of heights!
It is great to be able to wander around the galleries and look closely at the artwork, though of course no touching is allowed!
Whether it is a sunny day out or a rainy day, this place is definately worth a visit, however long you have! It could be a brief visit or several hours. The choice is yours!
