Morrissey: The Jewel in the Crown is an 108 minute unauthorised documentary that charts the solo career and life and times of the pop icon from the break up of The Smiths in 1987 through to the release of You Are The Quarry in 2004 when Morrissey suddenly emerged from nowhere after years of deafening silence and had an unexpected renaissance of sorts. Because so much has happened to him since The Smiths and the fact that his career has been so up and down you would think that a fascinating documentary would be there for the taking but this is a very flat and uninspired film and not helped of course by the fact that Morrissey had absolutely nothing to do with it. The Jewel In The Crown is an unofficial DVD about the charasmatic singer, Morrissey. Morrissey's influence as an icon far exceeds the sales of his records, he is worshipped by his fans and it seems everyone has an opinion on him. This DVD tells the story of how Morrissey came to prominence with The Smiths and later into his solo career. Many people feature throughout the DVD making comments, such as Tony Wilson, Stephen Street and Vini Reilly. Strangely, this DVD doesn't feature Morrissey at all.
