Advantages: entertaining
Disadvantages: he has a lot of holidays.
There's only one man who can wake me up at 7:30 in the morning and not expect to get a smack in the mouth(!) and Terry Wogan is the man for the job. From Monday to Friday you can expect to hear Terrys irish tones warming up for the total of 2 hours as he talks about pretty much anything.
Throughout that time Terry and his fellow 'underlings or numpties' read out emails and answer phonecalls from listeners. They always seem to use fake names, this morning there was a 'bearded bandit' commenting about heavy traffic in some place. There is also news and traffic bulletins every half hour and the usual banter being thrown about all over the place.
There are two main newsreaders which he appears to get on with the most, Alan Dedicoat and Fran Godfrey and then there's another lady known as The Traffic Totty, Lynn Bowles.
These people aren't just there for reading the news, a lot of the time they are taking part in all the jokes and tucking into the free food which the wake up to wogan team seem to get frequently. There they are happily munching away on bacon sarnies whilst I'm stuck with a round of toast!
The stories they tell are sure to raise a smile especially when they start making comments on whats on the telly at the moment. Then there's Terrys scottish accents which he does rather well.
The bit which I look forward to the most however is the Janet and John sections. These are meant to be real life stories linked with one of ex newsreaders and his wife but are sure to make you laugh no matter how you're feeling with the slight stupidity and innuendos.
It does sometimes make you wonder how they manage to fit it all in. All the chatting, correspondence, stories, jokes news and traffic updates and even then you have to have the music. The majority of the time it is music from years and years gone by, with the odd Killers or Scissor Sisters track thrown in. I don't mind though as I was brought up with the old stuff and a lot of it is just as good.
Terry is often referred to as the TOGmeister thanks to his legions of TOGS. Terrys Old Geezers/Gals/Gits however there are a generation of younger TOGs called the TYGs - Terrys Young Geezers/Gals due to the fact that they listen to Terry Wogan on the way to school in the car.
If you want to listen to the TOGmeister from 7:30-9:30 weekdays the station channel is on FM between 88.1 and 90.2MHz.
If you continue to listen next up will be Ken Bruce who I swear sounds just like Terry.
Terry Wogan is the best radio presenter to wake up to along with the rest of his team, not in your face or offensive it's a good way to start your day. Although yes I will admit he has an awful lot of holidays so you may miss him from time to time!
