Advantages: Chris Tarrant
Disadvantages: the music, the presenters, the windups
Being a devoted indie/alternative fan, I grew up infuriated by the pop pap I had to listen to on this station. Until the age of 13, the only vaguely new music I could get on my radio was limited to Capital or Radio 1. Capital usually won because I can't stand the R1 presenters. I only listened to this staion in the mornings or at weekends, and now I only listen to it as a compromise wih my mum (it's Capital or Radio 4). Fortunately, I think I'm managing to persuade her into Xfm instead. Chris Tarrent is a very talented presenter, and he's sometimes extremely funny. This makes the terrible "chart music" in-between even harder to bear. However, if Steve Penk is on, I can't switch stations fast enough. I just can't stand him! He's a bad presenter and knows nothing about music, and instead of playing ANYTHING to replace his moronic attempts at humour, he does tired and unoriginal "windups". Hmmm, might have been amusing in the 70s, but now they are just cruel or boring. He seems to have been reduced to phoning up old women and telling them they're going to be evicted, generally upsetting people and acting like a complete ****. I would say that the only redeeming feature is the breakfast show with Chris Tarrant and some nailbitingly good competitions. Otherwise, it's an unending stream of moronic presenters and terrible repetitive music. A new single that's obviously got a lot of money behind it can be played every 15 minutes! What better way to make you suicidal?
