Advantages: Good range of music - good for the office of mixed sexes and ages
Disadvantages: Can sometimes get stuck on a particular song
I generally listen to Downtown during the day at work on my PC for two reasons.
1. I am from Northern Ireland but actually live on the mainland now, so it is nice to hear the familar accent as it helps me keep my own in check without trying to hard where I end up sounding like Nadine Coyle.
2. The music they play is really good.
Now, I share an office with a varied mix of sexes and ages, and downtown is fine for pretty much everyone. Their playlists are pretty varied in that they could be playing retro and motown tunes in the morning, followed by a bit of Top 40 before lunch, and some chilled out classics in the afternoon - they have regular news breaks on the hour which concentrates mainly on news around theprovince, this is something that I quite like, but if you aren't from the province it might have no relevance to you - likewise, most of their advertising is pretty local - this is not a bad thing as it is a Northern Irish radio station but just something to make you aware of if you're tuning in from outside the province.
The only thing I will say as a negitive comment, is that Downtown seem to take 'notions' with particular songs, at the money it is 'Living on a Dream' by Bruce Springstein - where they play it about 3 times in a day over the space of a week - yes this is a great song, but come on downtown, we've had enough of it by now!
Summary: A taste of Northern ireland online!
