Advantages: Great Music, Fantastic Shows

Disadvantages: Commercial so You Get Adverts

I started to listen to Kiss 100 a few years back when I began to get bored with the same stuff every morning on Capital. After hearing someone mention try Kiss 100 I thought and would, and to be honest don’t really listen to any other stations now. My radio is permanently tuned to Kiss, and if I am sitting at home then the TV will be on Kiss TV on sky. Addicted or what? No just enjoy listening to the great music that they play.

Due to some of the horrible shifts that I have to work, ranging from a 6am start to a half 9 finish throughout the week and at weekends I am listening to it in my car. To be honest this is probably the time that I do listen the most. But because of these shifts it gives me the opportunity to listen to the various shows throughout the day.

Throughout the course of the day they have many different DJ’s presenting many different types of show especially at the weekends and evenings. Through the week you tend to have the same DJ on each day at the same time, although I have to be honest these are still pretty good.

For most people I suppose the day would start listening to what they call the Bam Bam Breakfast. This runs from 6 – 9 am and has to be one of the funniest shows on the radio I have ever heard. Even my girlfriend likes this one and she is not the biggest Kiss fan going. It is presented by Bam Bam along with his co-host Streetboy. Streetboy has been part of Kiss for as long as I can remember and used to be part of some of the older Kiss breakfast shows as well as hosting his own shows.

The show itself does what every morning breakfast show does and keeps you updated with the traffic and news as well as keeping you fully entertained. They play you some of the latest tunes as well as some of the older tunes that made the music scene what it is now. Throughout the show you will find Streetboy upto some of his usual antics, terrorising innocent members of the public, you just have to listen to know what I mean it is hilarious trust me!

After this during the week Kiss hands over to their next DJ James Merrit until12 midday. For the first hour of his show every morning they play you what is known to all Kiss listeners as Kisstory. For those of you that cant guess what this is, it is the history of music and plays you some of the best old school tunes ranging back to the 80s and 90s, some seriously great tunes! After that hour he moves onto playing some of the great music you will generally here on Kiss.

At 12pm Chris Phillips takes over and for the first two hours will play you all the latest tunes along with a bit of carefully selected to Kisstory tunes. At 2pm, still with Chris Phillips you get Free Radio Kiss, this is an hour of tunes that have been selected by the public. You can request the tunes you want to hear by calling the dedicated phone number and leaving your message.

At 3pm Robin Banks takes over with his co-host Melissa Johnson better known as Millie (she by the way also presents the shows between 4 – 6 am for those that are up then). This show runs until 7pm and features again all the latest tunes and the music you want to hear, but just like the breakfast show by Bam Bam can also be extremely funny. As well as keeping you upto date with all the traffic info for those of you unlucky enough to be travelling in rush hour.

At 7pm Jez Whellam will take over the studio and present you with again some more of the tunes that you want ranging from Kisstory to the present day and latest tunes. This is pretty much it for the Monday to Friday shows that run all week as from 9pm things change.

Monday to Thursday at 9pm the shows become Kiss Presents Smooth Grooves. This is a 2 hour show featuring some of the smoothest R&B and Hip Hop tunes. Each day the show is presented by a different DJ. This includes some of the top names including the likes of Firin Squad and Shortee Blitz.

After this show is the second Kiss Presents show of the evening only this time it changes each day. Monday is House and Trance, Tuesday becomes House Music, followed by UK Garage on Wednesday and House music on Thursday. Once again these shows are presented by some seriously top DJs including the likes of Tall Paul.

The sort of tunes that you can expect to hear on all of these shows is the latest tunes, club anthems and all of the tunes that would like to hear. As through out the day, every day you can call or text them to request a tune that you want.

Friday evenings is a bit different as it is the start of the weekend. It begins with Friday Night Kiss, presented by Bam Bam at 7pm. This show is broadcast across the UK on various other radio stations that link to Kiss for this show including the following stations: (list taken from Kiss website)

- Radio Aire (Leeds 96.3)
- Radio City (Liverpool 96.7)
- Hallam FM (Sheffield 97.4)
- Metro Radio (Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and County Durham 97.1)
- Key 103 (Manchester 103)
- Rock FM (Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn, Wigan and Southport 97.4)
- TFM (Teeside 96.6)
- Viking FM (East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire 96.9)

After this at 10pm one of the UKs best DJs EZ takes over for a couple of hours and plays the best in UK Garage along with a variety of guest MCs that differ every week. For those of you that are into the garage scene then this has to be a must, it is a fantastic show and some of the guests are fantastic.

Kiss runs through the night every night, each night varying from one to the other which I wont list as I am sure most people do not get to listen to them anyway. However if you wish to know these then a full schedule can be obtained on the Kiss website.

At the weekends its all different. You have a host of DJs through the day. Saturday at 6am starts of with Stu Smith, 10 am is Chris Phillips, followed by Jez Whellam at 2pm. At 6pm it is the beginning of Saturday night with Steve Smart with his Floorfillers show. During this show he plays all of the best tunes in the club scene at the minutes, hosts a variety of special guests DJs and pays some specially mixed tunes for Kiss known as Bootlegs. Some of these tunes you would never imagine being mixed together but they actually come out sounding great.

After this Kiss continues into the night and again with a variety of different shows and specialist DJs, including Princess Superstar at 9pm.

Sunday kicks of at 6am with Stu Smith, Chris Phillips at 10am, with Alison Hulme at 1pm. At 4pm is the Smash Hits Chart Show which counts down all of the favourite tunes in the UK from 40 down to the number 1 spot.

After The Chart Show, is 2 hours worth of Kisstory this time presented by Streetboy who gives you all whole host of tunes from the past non-stop for 2 hours. Once again, after this Kiss continues all night long. During the night are some of the tunes you request as each night there is some time dedicated to Free Radio Kiss.

During various shows on Kiss you will find that they are always running competitions of some sort, some of the competitions take place on the breakfast show other in the afternoon shows. Some of the competitions they run are definitely worth having including Mobile Phones, CDs and tickets to some of the Kiss Club nights.

Kiss is not just about the radio station though, they also host many many club nights across the London area particularly on a Friday and Saturday night. For example every Friday night is Thank Kiss Its Friday which is at the Equinox in London every week. There is also Kiss Smooth Grooves every Friday, Peach, Kisstory Club Tour and Freedom To Dance. For information on these nights or how to obtain tickets you can call the ticket lines or visit the Kiss site.

But as I said earlier when I am at home my TV is quite often switched to Kiss TV. This is a station that runs 24/7 playing all of the tunes that you request by calling the dedicated telephone number at entering the three digit code for the song you want.

The channel displays all the number you want across the bottom of the screen but you can also get a full list of their website. To view Kiss TV switch to channel 450 on Sky Digital, 815 on NTL or 326 on Telewest. For those music fans out there that are into the latest music then this station is definitely worth checking out as it plays music all day and night and best of all you get to choose what they play.

As well as all this on their website is also a shop link where you can purchase some of the latest ringtones for your mobile, CDs, Kiss Tickets and other Kiss items. From the website you can also email any of the DJs using the Kiss message board, view details of all the shows, details of all the DJs them selves including pictures.

Some of the shows on Kiss are considered that good that they have one many awards including awards from Sony Music Awards.
