Mark & LardNewest Review: ... funny, secondly entertaining, and thirdly takes the piss out of all the other crap on radio1 - hurrah! Beware, if you are the sort of person who likes cheesy crappy pop you are unlikely to be amused by the antics of Mark and the boy Lard, who frequently denounce records, turn them off halfway through and make vomiting noises over those which really they don't want to be playing but are told to by R1 bosses. Other highlights are the listeners' texts and emails. When there was puzzlement over the lyrics to a Sean Paul record, a listener emailed in, stating it was in an old Jamaican dialect, translated as "I'm not Gay or o... more |

But I think mark and Lard are the best thing on radio 1! Mind you, that's not saying much. Catchphrases such as "can ye back off the mike a bit?!!" "I was 'avin a drink then!" and "Stop! Carry on!" are lost in the written word, but are pure magic when you actually hear them! I apologise. I haven't started this review coherently have I. Oh dear. Although that's probably quite appropriate since unless you listen to the show regularly you are unlikely to get any of the references and it won't seem to make much sense! Anyway, let's try that again shall we? Mark and Lard - The BIGGEST ... Read the complete review

It seems nowadays the average Englishman cannot turn on the TV or Radio without hearing the straining of some over-hyped 'nu metal' band, or see some equally stereotypical bubble-gum pop group grinning unbearably at the camera. It seems now even Radio 1 has been saturated with pure crap, with the explosion of garage, hip-hop and R'n'B taking over our wirelesses. But in amongst the cesspool of modern radio, there are two beacons of hope, resting firmly between 1 and 3 on (most) weekday afternoons. Mark and Lard is the title given to the comedy duo of Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley (Lard). These likely lads hail from Manchester, and it is from the ... Read the complete review

Those lazy afternoons are the perfect time to switch on the radio and chill out to some funky tunes interspersed with amusing banter. Unfortunately, I rarely bother these days because of the tosh reguarly turned out by 2 of radio one's supposed stars, 'Mark and Lard'. The format of their show relies on repeated versions of tired jokes on similar themes with a couple of boring phone ins and competitions. The main joke of the show seems to revolve around the name and irritating voice of Mark Radcliffe's side kick. In their favour, the duo do appear to have pretty good taste in music, offering a variety of excellent tunes, only spoilt by ... Read the complete review

The Marc and Lard show (now in a new earlier time slot) stands out from the crowd of bland and boring afternoon radio shows because of the strong personalities of the two presenters. You can tell that these two are good friends who are of the same age and share the weird musical/ comedy influences. Bu then, Marc Radcliffe (a sucessful radio producer years before he became a presenter) and Mark Riley or Lard(formerly a musician with legendary Manchester band, the Fall) are not your typical "radio personalities". Like John Peel they enjoy the best in new indie music (although the playlisting restricts them a bit) but the music is secondary to their mad ... Read the complete review

This is one of the best shows on Radio 1. The show is hosted by to northerners, which are just having a laugh. The have tonnes of jokes. My favourite part of the show is the cheesily cheerful chart challenge this is where they give a topic which is in the media at the moment, and people phone in with songs which best describe the quote. The show is on 1pm to 3 pm with Chris moles show afterwards which is very similar to the mark and lard show. I would definitely recommend you to listen to it, Its a good show to listen to but some of their joke do get enjoying when listening to it every day. ... Read the complete review
