Advantages: You wake up with Moyles

Disadvantages: You get home with Mills

I first started listening to Radio 1 about 3 or 4 years ago and since then i have never switched back to local radio.

Apart from the great music old and new, you also have great DJ's. I listen to Radio One in the morning around 7.45 on my way to work till about 9 and then on my way home from 5pm to 6pm. So generally i listen more to Chris Moyles breakfast show and Scott Mills in the afternoon.

---------------------------------
The Chris Moyles Show 7am - 10am
---------------------------------

_backgroun d about chris_

Chris joined Radio One in July 1997 and back then did the 4am show. Since then he has called himself 'The Saviour of Early Morning Radio'. Chris also won a Silver Sony Radio award for DJ of the year.

_the team_

Chris is joined on the show by Comedy Dave (his sidekick) who is director of comedy on the show, Comedy Dave is also on weekends with Chappers who features on weekdays with Scott Mills.
Producer Rachel - she joined the show in October 2003, Rachel is from Kidderminster which is near Birmingham and often Chris and Dave do an impression of her with a Brummie accent which is very funny.
Aled - is a Broadcast Assistant (which i didn't know till i researched this) he often features on the show, with what he's been up to. Recently he was BB Aled (Big Brother) Aled and went and interviewed the Celebrities after they were booted off Big Bro!

_the show_

The show is generally a mish mash, with a very loose structure, Chris often talks alot and they seem to 'be running late, but sounding great' quite a few times as well.
Dave around 9o'clock every morning does his Tedious Link in which he links yesterdays tedious song to the one they play that morning, the song he plays is usually good.
On Tuesdays there is a feature called Rob DJ's Monday Night Pub quiz, which is Chris's mate Rob's quiz that he did on Monday night basically. Rachel picks a few questions from the quiz and asks everyone, there is an ongoing score board, i think Carrie (sport reader) and Chris are in the lead at the mo.
Beep Beep Busters is a new game for 2006 wohoo! I'm usually at work by this time, but i think it's two contestants in there cars who have to answer questions and beep there horn!!!
Celebrity Tarzan - is another feature where a Celebrity does the aaaaaaaaaaaa noise and we have to guess who it is, winner get's CD's, it carrys on daily until somebody guesses it.

_news and sport_

Carrie is the sport reader for the show and joins in on the pub quiz games.

Dom (Dominic Burn) - is the newsreader and has one road travel which is a feature when a a listener gets to feature there traffic news on the road on which they live on.

_my opinion_

Well ever since i tuned into The Chris Moyles Show, i have been hooked, Chris is funny, down to earth and easy to listen to in the morning. Sometimes it's more chat then music, but because what he talks about it so interesting and funny, you don't really notice that 20 minutes has gone past without music.
I would recommend you to listen to this if you are easy going and have good sense of humour!

Chris Moyles also does a weekly podcast if you miss anything on the show. Basically they cram the best bits of the week, including guests, (some include Kanye West, Jordan,Chris Martin and many more) into half an hour, which you can download to your mp3 player. This is available from iTunes.com

Now i don't really listen to the daytime DJ's. Only if i'm out at lunchtime - so i will give you the facts, but can't really give much of a personal opinion.

-------------------------
Jo Whiley 10am - 12.45pm
-------------------------

_background about Jo_

Jo joined Radio 1 in Spring 1993 and in 1997 had her daytime show. She also co-presented coverage of Glastenbury Festival with John Peel (R.I.P). She also won DJ of the Year at the Sony Radio awards.

_the show_

Jo Whiley is known for passion for new music and upcoming bands and features them regulary on her show. She also does the live lounge where she gets in bands to perform live on of there songs and also a version of another song, which is also very good. Katie Tunstall recently performed 'Suddenly i see' and Radioheads ' Fake Plastic Trees'

_my opinion_

You mostly associate Jo's show with live music, she is really easy to listen to and has quite a sexy and sultry voice.
If i could get the chance i would listen to Jo, but because she's on later, i'm at work so i can't listen to her alot.
Jo Whiley brings something else to Radio 1 and it's really refreshing to be able to hear new bands and music.
Recently i heard Sigur Rus, which are a swedish band on her show, and they are amazing. They are going to be playing at this years T in the park.

------------------------
Colin & Edith 1pm - 4pm
------------------------

_background about colin & edith_

Colin is from Belfast and previously presented The Session with Donna Legge for Radio 1 in Northern Ireland. Colin also writes music reviews and had his own magazine called 'BLANK'.

Edith joined Radio 1 in 2003, she is mostly known for her love of live gigs. Before she worked at Radio 1; Edith used to co-present MTV's Hitlist UK with Cat Deeley. Edith has also interviewed big stars such as Robbie Williams, U2 and Kylie.

_the show_

Colin and Edith present the lunchtime show and i sometimes catch them when i'm on lunch (obviously).

They are both pretty easy to listen to they both have gorgeous accents as i mentioned Colin is from Belfast and Edith is from bonny Scotland, they work really well together and bounce off one another.
Some of the most memborable features that they have previousley done on the show has been presenting from Edith's House, also Radio 1 had a 'DJ's go home' week which was good and Colin and Ediths show was done in Belfast and Scotland.

Some recent guests of Colin and Edith have included Kim Cattrel (Sex and the City's Sam), David Schwimmer (Friends's Ross) and the Foo Fighters.

_my opinion_

With the variety of great guests, great choice of music, non of this pop songs constantly, i would definitely tune into Colin and Edith when i get the chance. They are both quite witty and don't try too hard which is good. They are very laid-back and have some great features another which i've just thought of is 'Lunch -time lovers' where a couple can dedicate a love song to there partner. awwww so sweet!.

----------------------
Scott Mills 4pm - 7pm
----------------------

_background about scott_

Scott joined Radio 1 in 1998 with the early morning breakfast show. He has had previous experience on GWR FM in Bristol and also worked on Heart FM before joining Radio 1.

_the show_

Scott has had a recent revamp for the show and they have changed there schedule recently. The used to have 'Your call' from 5pm every day but now it is slightly different.

Because of the success of Laura's diary on The Chris Moyles Shows (Scott filled in for him when he was on holiday and this one one of the features) Laura's Diary is now a much awaited feature at 5.15pm on the dot (well nearly) every evening.

Laura works on the show and her sister Mary found one of her diaries at home and from then on has been reading daily extracts from this diary. It's extremely funny and it's now in it's 3rd series 'The university years'.

'Your call' which has now moved to 6.30pm is when callers get to ring and request any song they fancy.

'Flirt Divert' is another hilarious feature, Scott Mills gives out the Flirt Divert number which is a mobile number that radio one have. When you go out on the weekend or whenever and a not so attractive lady or man asks for your number, you give them this one instead - they leave a message which gets played on air, which is hilarious after listening to many of these, my god there are some weirdo's out there.

'Rate my Listener' is done partly on the Radio 1 website, listeners send in there picture and the put it on the website for everybody else to rate it options being minging, average, not bad, Gmornin.

On Friday's the schedule is slightly different as Scott is only on till 6pm, from 5pm it's 'The Wonder Years' there is music from 90's through to 00's. This is great, they also generally play great hits.

_my opinion_

I love listening to Scott Mills on the way home, him and Chappers (oops forgot to mention Chappers, sidekick, also does a weekend show with Comedy Dave form Chris Moyles show) they are funny and play good music, bit more poppy but still great, and have some of the best features, i find myself making sure i've got the radio on for 5.15pm for when Laura's Diary is on cause it's fab. I definitley recommend listening to the show, it's in my opinion far far better then local.

----------------------

Well above is the weekday schedule it should go something like this:

04.00-07.00 - JK & Joel (haven't listened to this before, never up that early - they have covered Scott's show before when he's been away and personally i think they have annoyiing voices, but seem ok otherwise)

07.00-10.00 - The Chris Moyles Show

10.00-12.45 - Jo Whiley

12.45-1.00 - Newsbeat

13.00-16.00 - Colin & Edith

16.00-19.00 - Scott Mills

19.00-21.00 - Zane Lowe

21.00-01.00 - Lamacq Live

01.00-03.00 - The Breezeblock with Mary Anne Hobbs

03.00-04.00 - One Click Magazine

----------
WEEKENDS
----------

I don't normally listen to the radio at weekends, unless i'm out on the road, but the schedule goes like this:

7am - 10am (Sat & Sun) - Spoony - Radio and TV star

10am - 1pm (Sat & Sun) - Vernon Kay - The lovable Vernon Kay i know him more from TV, when he co-presented T4 and had a show called 'Boys and Girls'. Coming up is a show he is doing with his wife called ' Just the two of us'.

1pm - 4pm (Sat & Sun) - Sara Cox - An extremely easy to listen to ladette, used to be a model. She has also fronted some of Radio 1's live events in 2003 and 2004.

4pm - 7pm (Sat) - Trevor Nelson - A well respected figure in the RnB music industry and also co-hosted the MOBO awards twice.

4pm - 7pm (Sun) - JK and Joel - Radio One's Chart Show - Two cheeky chappies. Apparently two of the hottest talents in the UK broadcasting industry.

Sometimes listen to this on a lazy sunday afternoon!

Apart from great Radio, Radio 1 also has a great website, which features upcoming events, gigs etc. You are also able to listen to Radio 1 online, it let's you know at the top of the page who is on at the moment. You can listen again to any show, if you've missed it.
There is also loads of help pages, if you go to one click and then click on one life, there are advice pages about Health, Work, Finance, Housing, Legal, Travel and Personal.

I think this is good for them to offer this as they do get a lot of young listeners. The advice is straight to the point and there aren't pages and pages to read.

There is also a messageboard to leave your thoughts about the show.

_in summary_

I recommend Radio one for everyone, there is always something for everyone, there is a good mix of music and personalities.
I couldn't drive to work every morning without listening to Radio one, it really wakes me up and gets me in a good mood for the day.

Thanks for reading this. Take care Lisa x
