Advantages: the music + Ms Cox and Mr Kay!
Disadvantages: some can grate on the nerves, some music isn't worth the airplay
I am an avid Radio 1 listener. It's even playing as I type this.
Growing up, I used to listen to the local station, but my patience grew thin with the constant dodgy adverts - why do they always have to be so childish yet catchy so you find yourself humming them later on??
Since joining the ranks of 'employee' Radio 1 has become the station of choice. Mainly because of the up-to-date music and lack of adverts.
Thats not to say some aspects dont grate.
Although Mr Moyles wakes me every morning, sometimes I have to turn him off. The rants that man gets on can really grate on my nerves, and the lack of music and time checks do bug me. The amount of times I've laid there waiting for the half seven news before getting up, only for them to say it's 7.35 and hand over to the news late! It can get very annoying.
That said, the guests are top-notch and tend to bring the best out of the breakfast crew.
I don't get to listen to jo Whiley much, but I do love the live-lounge when I get the chance. Radios in the morning tend to be frowned upon at work, tho actively encouraged come afternoon!
That brings us to Edith Bowan. Used to love the show she did with Colin Murray, and it did take her a long time to get used to not having him beside her i think. Now tho, she's in full stride. But some of the music she plays can only be described as rubbish! Most is good, but the occasional 'new' music she throws out has me reaching for the tuning dial!
Scott Mills is not my favourite presenter, I have to state here and now. I find his humour childish, so will say no more about his show. I tend to switch the car radio to Chris Evans (Radio2) for the ride home instead.
From the weekend crew, we get my favourite two presenters of the whole station. Vernon Kay and Sara Cox. They are both so bubbly and down-to-earth it's like sitting down with a good friend for a chin-wag!
When they cover the week-presenters it's always guaranteed to be playing in my office - lucky that my colleagues happen to agree!
The chart show on Sunday is what you'd expect. Fern Cotton and Reggie Yates are good together, but it seems to be rare that they do it together these days. Other commitments I guess, and they've taken to bringing a guest presenter in to sit with the remaining one.
As i stated, I do listen to this station. I've tried to give just a quick round-up of the shows I hear, without rambling too much, so sorry if I've missed someone or haven't gone into enough detail for some of you.
I'd recommend this station, although my bloke is a Radio 2 man as he keeps reminding me (I take it as meaning he's an old fart!).
I think music can keep you young, and the mix of recent and new music this station plays will certainly do that - I feel younger now than when I left school!
Summary: If current and new music is you - then listen in
