Newest Review: ... overall the standard of commentating is very high. The level of coverage is excellent as well with them covering a wide range of sports such as, football, rugby, boxing and formula one. After each day of football there is always a '606' programme which allows fans of all teams to air their views on the action and whatever is going on at their club. The topical debates that take place are all generally interesting and tend to focus on the most important news events currently happening. They have discussions with many people relevant to the subject as well as allowing general members of the public to discuss it and offer their views. One... more

BBC Radio 5 live is my favourite radio station, it offers a mix of sports coverage and topical debates as well a entertaining programmes such as 'Fighting Talk'. The sports coverage is excellent and although some people may take a dislike to a couple of the commentators overall the standard of commentating is very high. Ah, Radio 5. I only really use this station for its football coverage, but on the few times I've listened to it on non-football related occassions I've found it to be a good listen, with lively discussions and debates both during the day, and also through the night (all the BBC's local radio stations switch to 5live at 1AM until 4AM, so if you listen to the likes of Radio Norfolk or Merseyside and forget to turn it off, this is where you'll end up). As I said, I only really use it for football, and in this regard it rarely fails to deliver the goods. Every weekend (during the football season) you will have at least 3 live commentary matches, and sometimes even ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Radio 5: Sport 3 + News 2 + Phone-ins 1 = 5 Live (377 words)

As a sports fan, 'BBC Radio 5 Live' is without doubt my favourite radio station. The channel usually broadcasts a comprehensive range of live events from football to athletics, rugby to golf, and is usually my first source for breaking sports news. As I don't have Sky Sports, and Setanta (which I did have) has now gone bust, I now find myself frequently listening to the radio in order to enjoy live sports coverage. Located at 909 and 693 Medium Wave, 5 Live isn't just about sports, as there are a wide range of topical shows and phone-in's to enjoy. Special praise must be given to the Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo film phone-in which is always entertaining to ...  Read the complete review

Where would we be without Radio 5...ok I'm going to be frank, as I'm deciding long winded reviews about my true feelings on things are often critisised (including my venting rant cum review at the job centre becoming locked...), so lets be honest most of you lot don't listen to Radio 5. Well I do, and believe it or not I enjoy it, whether it's the live football, riding in my grandads car, the rare boxing they have on or more often than not Fighting Talk, I love Radio 5, in fact I guess I love talk radio. Radio 5 is a 24 hour radio channel (unlike some local ones) and has a regular time table of shows (a link to the schedule can be found at the bottom of this ...  Read the complete review

Until I bought a house and had a family, I could think of nothing more boring than listening to a channel that was purely dedicated to news and sport with not a hint of music. How times change. Now, for me BBC Radio 5 Live is like the friend you have by your side with you at all times. I now need to know what is happening with my mortgage rates and other bills so this station is a God send for that. 5 Live can be found on MW 909 or 693 and also on DAB and Freeview. The reception is always very clear and the presenter of a high quality. The mix of sports and news is just right with dedicated coverage to football, cricket, current affairs and politics ...  Read the complete review
