Advantages: great tunes all nite
This was the second date of the Dance Anthems tour, and it would be a challenge to make it as good as, or even better than the previous weeks show from The South Coast Weekender. That really was a brilliant place to kick off the tour, but I dont think Dave Peare could have chosen a better venue to follow up that fantastic show.
The crowds in Newcastle are always the loudest, because Geordies really do know how to party. Not only was it the best crowd, but also the best nightclub in the area. The show came live to the UK on Radio 1 from Foundation in Newcastle. This is quite a small club, which is perfect for a live show of this kind. The sound system is so powerful, and the Geordie crowd never stopped partying, making the atmosphere AMAZING!
The doors were to open at 7pm, but in true Foundation (and Radio 1) style they ended up openeing at 7:15pm, leaving the keen clubbers like myself standing outside in rediculously skimpy outfits freeszing our butts off! (but at only £5 at ticket it was worth it!!) Drinks were a fairly reasonable price, with Vodka and Redbull costing £2.80. It wasn't really neccessary to get plastered though, because the DJ's performances really were brilliant. The only downer about the drinks was that they stopped being sold at 10pm, woth it being a Sunday.
The club filled up really quickly and I was sure to secure my place right in front of the DJ booth. As soon as Dave came on the stage to set up his mixing desk the crowd went mental, cheering his name and clapping - and this was before it even went on air! And what a noise when it did go on - Dave only needed to say "Newcastle" and the raving Geordies went beserk. And you should have heard the response to "Love Parade ... in Newcastle ... July 21st!" - that is going to be the biggest party in the North East ever!!
After Dave had done a few shouts, played some real dance anthems, and let some poor girls embarress themselves singing
on stage, loosing the game, and then being booed of stage, it was time for Vincent De Moore to perform live. Live?? - I didnt actaully see him, and the only live thing on the stage was a bimbo who sings on the track "Fly Away", and I suspect that she was miming. Anyway, ita a good tune and me and my mate had a good dance in our cowgirl outfits.
The other live guest that night was the one and only DJ Tiesto and his performance really made the night. He played a live set for about an hour, but only half an hour of it was broadcast live to the nation on Radio 1. The crowd were constantly cheering him on, and you could tell Tiesto was loving it from the huge grin that was permenently on his face. He was playing the best tunes from the Euro trance scene, such as:-
- Tiesto -'Urban Train' (White Label)
- Utah Saints - 'Lost Vagueness' (Echo)
- Yahel & Eyal Barkan - 'Voyage' (In Trance We Trust)
- Jan Johnson - 'Flesh' (Perfecto)
- Tiesto - '6 Ft 3' (White Label)
Once DJ Tiesto had finished, Dave Pearce came back for his live mixing set - and the crowd was still going strong at 11:45pm! Dave played some great tunes aswell :-
- Cortina 'Music Is Moving' (Nukleuz)
- The Mystery 'White Label' (White Label)
- Minimalistix 'Struggle for Pleasure' (Mostiko)
3 tunes that will always remind me of this fantastic night!
