A real review on real radio 100 to 101 fm
I thought about doing this review for such a long time~ So here goes.
**A little about Real Radio Scotland**
Real radio is Scotland's number one commercial radio station with 649,000 adult listeners per week. Real radio was previously known as Scot Fm until about 5yrs ago when they moved premises and joined a larger radio group called Guardian Media Group Radio which have several of the leading radio stations under there belts including 102.2 jazz fm (London) and 100.4 ( North West England). GMGR is currently applying to OFCOM which is the company that regulates the radio license.
Real radio is based at Glasgow Business park which is about 10/20 minute drive from Glasgow.

**Lets meet the presenters**
Al Sutherland~ is the presenter of the all request lunch on a Saturday between the hours of 4pm and 6pm. During his show you can request all those favourite songs and even have your voice on the radio.
**My Thoughts** Not the best presenter that real radio has~ he is often too big for his boots. What I mean by that he thinks he's funny when he is not.
Jay Crawford~ better known as boss man Jay presents the his show between 2pm and 6pm Monday to Friday. His show is full of useful information including Real Radio travel news which keeps Scotland moving, regular news updates, competitions and off course all your favourite music.
**My thoughts** One of my favourite presenters on the real radio station. You can be guaranteed that you will be laughing whilst driving home with this presenter. Boss man always has a good laugh on his show and off course you can win prizes too, may be not the best prizes but hey anything is better than nothing.
Mark Goodier~ Is the present that will keep you up to date with all the going on within the top 40. You can join him each and very Sunday from 4pm to hear who is at number 1 and of course who has been knocked off the top spot. During his show you can win several good prizes.
**My thoughts** Sorry Mark but your show does not do it for me. I prefer to listen to the mix of music that all the other presents play and no necessary the top 40. Mark is definitely the best presenter for this show.
Shereen Tulloch~ Listen to her at 10pm on a Sat and Sun night as she belts out all the love songs, she also asks for her listeners help when she tries to solve a dilemma. Now her dilemmas are always against men for example~ Someone calls the show with there dilemma usually "I think my boyfriend is cheating on me! I have found a love letter" Shereen will then tell all her listeners the dilemma and ask for there opinion. Listeners will then either call or text the show and give there opinion. After getting so many opinions Shereen will then tell the listeners all the opinions that she ahs received. In addition to that you can request a "mention" along with a song for your loved one.
**My Thoughts** Definitely worth listening too, She ahs the best voice for the show and to be honest her show is superb. I know most people only like a few love songs but believe me the time soon runs away with you. Before you know its 1am and the next presenter is on.
Willie Docherty~ Covers the midnight to 5am show Monday through to Friday. During the 5 hour show you can expect to hear a wide variety of music from 1960s to the most modern music. You also get the usual on the hour news update.
**My thoughts** This is certainly the most boring slot on real radio that I have ever heard of, poor Willie must get a little lonely when he is in that study all by himself. Besides that Willie is a good present and he certainly helps the night shifts pass.
Ewan Cameron and Alan Rough~ Both of these presenters are responsible for the 6pm to 8pm Monday to Friday slot. Oh yes they fill it ok. They host a talk show all about football and often have guest including football players, referees, and journalists from local newspapers (The Record). They argue and hold debates on everything from how much rangers have paid for there latest player to that defeat Celtic had.
**My Thoughts** I may not be a mad footballer but I certainly love this 2 hour show. These two presenters are absolutely brilliant, How they can argue with each other for two hours and still come back to work the following day. A it's a phone in show you can always be guaranteed a good laugh. This show runs during the football season.
Robin Galloway and Cat Harvey~ Aka the breakfast pair. My favourite presenters on Real radio. This pair along with the news and traffic presents are responsible for the 6am to 9am Monday to Friday. During there show you can expect to wet yourself with laughter with the real windups~ Ok I will explain Mr Robin Galloway telephones certain places or people and winds them up~ I recall when he called a chair lift co pretending to be Old Mrs Galloway who is 89 years of age (hard of hearing too) and telling the staff that she is stuck on a chair lift, during the call you can hear Mrs Galloway whizzing up the stairs on this lift. The staff are trying frantically to help here, WEEEEEEEEE she's of again…….. To be continued. You can also expect to get all the latest traffic and travel news along with all the local, national and international news live on the show. The pair also review the morning papers and ask listeners to call in with there stories. Most competition start on this show too.
**My Thoughts** A super pair of presenters who do a super job, I have seen myself in the car laughing at the wind up. You know that your going to have good day when you hear them in the morning. I would certainly recommend that you all listen to one of there wind ups.
Ok now you the main presenters I will give you a brief description of the other presents:
David Treasure~ Covers from midnight till 6am on a Friday night and 1am to 6pm on a Saturday night. You will expect to heat a wide favourite music.
John Morgan~ Presents a show on Saturday from 6pm till Midnight. You will hear all the dance music and party music during this show
Dougie Jackson 10am till 2pm weekdays you can request all your favourite songs during this show
Gary Davies~ Sunday 1pm till 4pm with the Real album count down~ Counts down the top 40 albums that week
**Behind the scenes staff**
Billy Anderson is the managing director
Phil Reed is the chief engineer
Sandra Somers is the station co ordinator
Heather Kane is the news editor
Joe Sangwin is the press office lady
**Competitions on Real radio**
Real radio has to be one of the station with the best prizes I have ever heard of on radio.
So what can you win or what people have won in the past~
Cars
Holidays
£15k
Cinema Tickets
£100.00 to spend at J Sainsbury's
All your bills paid for a year
And many more other great prizes~ There slogan they expect you to say if you're a winner is~ " I'm a real winner"
**Travel news** Is announced very frequently during the rush hour times. I.e. 7am-9am and 4.30-6.30pm. During this time you will be brought right up to date e with the latest travel news on the roads, buses and trains. If there is major disruption on the roads or buses and a listeners makes them aware they will announce it ASAP.
Real radio is available on DAB digital radio and on normal FM frequency 100.3 fm in the west coast of Scotland and 101.1fm on the east coast. You can also listen to real radio on the web there address is www.realradiofm.com

**Final Thoughts**
Real radio 100 to 101fm is certainly my favourite radio station. With all the good prizes that are available and the mixture of presenters I am sure that everyone will find a slot of real radio that they like. I have said it through the review that the breakfast show is certainly my best part of the station. I like the fact the Real radio gets behind local causes, when I say that I mean they organise bring a pound to work days which means all the local company's get there staff to bring a pound to work and then they all send it to Real radio.
http://promo.gmgradio.com/promotions/bringapoundt owork2/ Last year they managed to raise £50,000 for charity.
Summary: Scotlands number one radio real radio

- 17/10/05 "Real Radio in Yorkshire broadcasts to a vast geographical area from Wetherby and Todmorden in the ... more ...Real Radio - ... North to Chesterfield and Gainsborough in the South and includes the cities of Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield. The station delivers a reach of 395,000 adult listeners every week, with average weekly hours of 10.3 (Source: RAJAR/Ipsos-RSL p/e June 2005 within Real Radio Yorkshire's TSA), showing impressive listener loyalty. A powerful audience with strong values and the ability to spend."
T hat is the dooyoo full description for the category - no mention of Scotland or Real Radio being a collection of stations broadcasting in different areas.
I understand you may have suggested it but somewhere in the communication the meaning got misplaced. Perhaps you should suggest it again and specify Scotland with some fuller detail/info. If you already did then contact dooyoo and point out their mistake and ask them to rectify it.
As it stands though (even though it is an excellent review) any consumer looking for feedback on Real Radio Yorkshire 106-108 fm that reads this review are going to be somwhat confused, do you see? Therefore, for such a consumer who wants to read about RR Yorkshire won't find it useful if they read this review about RR Scotland. |
