Advantages: Good Selection of Music, Caters for all ages, Entertaining Shows

Disadvantages: You have to live on South Coast to enjoy WAVE

Wave 105.2FM Radio Station is a local radio station based in Fareham in Hampshire. The station can be received in Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and surrounding areas.

In my opinion Wave 105 is the best local radio station that the South Coast has to offer. The choice of music ranges from current chart music to 70's music with the Glitz Mix shows.

Weekday mornings start at 6.00am with DJ Steve Power and his team. The Breakfast Show is always a fun show with a great deal of humour and a fair amount of listener participation in response to the various topics being discussed. A regular feature on the Breakfast Show is the Rip Off Files, a consumer feature which allows listeners to air their disappointment or satisfaction in an establishment or product. The Rip Off Files is a very popular and informative part of the Breakfast Show. Another useful feature on the show is the frequent traffic reports.

At 9.00am there is a change of DJ and the beginning of the programme formerly known as a Year in 60 Minutes and now known as the Golden Hour, this show plays News clips and music from a specific year. The listeners are invited to guess the year or answer a question based around events of the specific year, the prize being a pair of cinema tickets.

The lunchtime shown is hosted by former TV Presenter Nino Fieretto, probably best remembered by 30 something females who may have swooned over his mullet hairstyle. Nino's show features a Whats On Guide and the listener lyric where an oap reads a lyric from a popular song and the listeners are invited to guess the song - the song is played later in the show. Nino's show also features the Win at Work Competition which invites work places to write, fax or e-mail in their favourite songs and a bit about the place they work and the people they work with, if they are chosen to feature they are rang up by the DJ, who has a brief chat with them and plays one of their favourit
e records, they then get entered into a draw for a meal for 10 which is drawn on a Friday afternoon on Ninos show.

The early evening show features a mixed bag of chart and 80's and 90's music along with regular travel updates. After the 6.00pm News there is a brief financial and business news report.

During the evenings and at weekends there is the usual mix of 80's 90's and current music along with the Glitz Mix show which features popular 70's disco tunes. A new addition to the evening programmes is a show known as the quiet storm - this show features music to chill out to and features artists such as Darren Hayes of Savage Garden.

Regular features on Wave include interviews with special guests, News reports on the hour every hour, weather forecasts, travel updates and a Whats On Guide.

Wave 105.2FM regularly runs competitions and was recently running a competition to win a trip to Las Vegas, which I got through to the final on. At the final about 100 finalists were invited to the Bournemouth IMAX to participate in a multiple choice quiz, answering questions about Las Vegas and its' attractions - I didn't win but it was a great morning out. The competition was broadcast live on the radio and there were two new bands playing live at the IMAX - the bands were Reel, an all male Irish group and Bellfire an all female group - Bellfire were particularly good and I think we'll be hearing loads more from them soon.

As well as running big prize competitions Wave regularly open the 'Ticket Window' which allows listeners to ring in on a given cue to win tickets to the cinema, a show or an exhibition.

For a wide variety of music which caters for every age group I would recommend Wave 105.2FM.
