The Love Of Hopeless Causes - New Model Army
by maximotodo - written on 04/10/00 (Useful, 31 readings)
Rating:
It has to be rare for a band that has been around for as long as NMA (late seventies) to produce such an imaginitive record so far down the line. None of their previous work, or indeed that since, sounds like this album. Opener, 'Here Comes The War' manages to be apocalyptic without relying on the distorto-detuned crap that passes ...

No Rest For The Wicked - New Model Army
by dangaroo - written on 09/08/08 (Very useful, 22 readings)
Rating:
No Rest for the Wicked is No Model Army s 2nd studio album and was released the year following their Vengeance album - 1985. In many ways the album follows example of their first with a mixture of upbeat tracks and quieter ones. The album has less of a military form to it though although the vocals still reach out and grab you so that there s no ignoring the words Justin Sullivan speaks. The production on the album is also cleaner and there is a wider variation of styles on the album, tracks like Shot 18 really aren t particularly interesting despite the introduction of mouth organ and may or may not be a harp. Despite each song being lyrically intelligent, the subject ...

Impurity - New Model Army
by steerpyke - written on 04/10/04 (Very useful, 89 readings)
Rating:
band, this would be a good summing up of their work, yet they do have so much more to offer. The first obvious clue that you are on to something New and different is that where the guitar solo would be, this band instead use a excert from a police patrol car radio transmission. Space has the same heavy drum and bass drive, yet is a more laid back affair, Justins voice sounding as rich as it ever can and again with a suprise middle 8 bar, the distant voice of a women reciting a poem is just made out in the background. Innocence is a pounding affair, with some amazing time changes and the beat of the song stoping and re-starting with precise timing. A song whose ...
