... electronic moog. Air have created a menagerie of tunes and beats that will take you on an unexpected ride, with keyboard keys above your head and dancing androids below. Every song has its own story, its own ethereal nature. "Electronic Performers" begins the album almost abruptly, declaring that "we are the synchronizers", an ominous vocal surrounded by orchestral flutes and heavy beats. Radio #1 is cut-down pop in its own right, complete with a singing DJ at the end o ...more

Premium Review 10,000 Hz Legend - Air: Air's New Universe (961 words)

Let's get this straight from the start - "10,000Hz Legend" is nothing like "Moon Safari." For years I, and so many others, have searched for music that made me feel even close to the lifting sensation that the new wave kitschy sugary pop gave me. I had found my new soundtrack to life, and I craved more. I bought Premiers Symptomes, their unreleased singles, and the Virgin Suicides Soundtrack, and while all of these were excellent albums in their own right, they were nowhere near the superlatively happy "Moon Safari." "10,000Hz Legend" is an almost an attempt to alienate the fans of "Moon Safari" by deliberately ...  Read the complete review

Well… Dunckel and Godin (or ‘Air’ as they are universally known) have done it again. Another sublime album, full of hypnotic tracks which immerse you in their world of geriatric electro-pop. Fantastic! However, saying that… this is a completely different album from the 2 boys from France, compared to their previous offering ‘Moon Safari’ (1998). Most of the tracks definitely have a darker edge to them but they still manage to get you murmouring along to the bizarre, mostly meaningless lyrics… whilst at the same time performing your own slinky moves (always in my case reserved for Air tracks!). So… what do you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 10,000 Hz Legend - Air: Air to Breathe (602 words)

Much has been made of Air's new prog rock tendencies, so let's not break the trend. If you say the words 'prog rock' to someone they usually come out in spots, and if someone says to you 'it is a little bit prog, but it's good...honest!', never, ever, believe them under any circumstances. However, '10 000hz Legend' actually is quite prog..but its very good honest. If you liked 'Moon Safari', there is no certainty that you will like this album. Behind 'Moon Safari''s easy listening, coffee table veneer there was always something that set them apart from your bland Morcheeba and other staples of 30 something ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Resistance is futile! (523 words)

Unusually for me I bought this CD on it's day of release despite not having heard any of the tracks from it.When buying an album I normally wait until it's had at least four singles released and is available in the bargain bin.But not with this! Air's 'Moon Safari' is one of my all time favs and their soundtrack for 'The Virgin Suicides' was superb. The band are a French two piece consisting of Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicholas Godin who make subline music which has a subtle futuristic bent.In 'Moon Safari' most of the songs had a space theme and where suitably spaced out.Singles such as 'Sexy boy' still sound fresh and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 10,000 Hz Legend - Air: air breathe new life into dance (153 words)

To try to top Moon Safari for any dance group would be hard - Air almost did it themselves. However, if you're expecting the same ketlle of well-cooked fish that was Moon Safari, you're going to be in for a ig surprise. That's not to say the album isn't great, it just feels that they have taken the lounge-music aura of its predecssor and blended it with oother paraphenalia, including an appearance by Beck, into a more violent juggernaut of an album which won't soothe your hangover. Ignore the gritty first and second tracks on the album and sample the delights of learning to spell (People in the City), the ode-to-oral-sex(Wonder Milky Bitch) and the ...  Read the complete review
