      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      not bad

100 hits from the seventies. I admit, not my preferred choice of musical decade as it all seemed to be glam rock or disco and punk as well of course. Am I being too judgemental, is there more to the seventies than those three genres? There are five discs here and for just over five quid you are getting a lot of music for your money.

The Nolans start the album in cheery and camp fashion with 'Im In The Mood.' A short burst of pop which will please any middle aged woman at any naff disco. Boney M I can pass on though, 'Brown Girl In The Ring' is just one step too far in a cheesy direction and all the clapping in it makes my blood boil.

Andrew Gold is much more enticing, 'Never Let Her Slip Away' is sung in a slinky and soulful fashion and has the right balance of pop to disco. Less successful is 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep' which has not aged well at all. Disc one closes the doors with the sublime 'Long Train Running' by Doobie Brothers, a magnetic piece of music with a wicked rhythm and genuine soul.

We doget some glam rock, as I predicted. Sweet's 'Wig Wam Bam' is suitablly glammed up, though too rocky for me. The Ramones sounds raw and fresh and should please real men who like their rock music cutting and with some aggression! If you prefer your music more refined, then crooners in the form of Elvis and Perry Como will thrill. I adore Elvis' controlled and sexual vocal on 'The Wonder Of You.' He can melt away doubts with that icy tongue of his.

Chris Rea pops up, though I am sure he was more eighties? 'Fool If You Think It's Over' is sincere and touching and his gravelly voice always sends shivers. More sickly is 'Seasons In The Sun' by Terry Jacks, which is meek and makes my go ugh! There are also some novelty esque songs in the form of Chas and Dave and Alvin Stardust, which do not serve the decade so well.

The album continues in good fashion, throwing up a lot of ones I had never heard of and a lot of the same names start to appear twice, so perhaps they were running low on material? Otherwise, quite comprehensive with a wide selection of music from different genres.
