A great album by a still young Green Day (1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours - Green Day)
Member Name: mousedadrummer
Advantages: Good pop punk songs Disadvantages: Missing the drumming magic of Tre Cool 1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was Green Days first full album release back in 1991 when they were about 18. The album is really a compilation of previous EPs released by the band under the indie lable Lookout Records. The title comes from the names of the EPs the song were taken from (1000 Hours, 89 Smooth and Slappy EP) all merged together. The album does not feature the current Green Day line up as Tre Cool was recruited after this record was released, John Kiffmeyer (aka Al Sobrante) is the drummer in this record. The songs are very different from current Green Day, mainly because of the age of the trio, all the songs are much more poppy and mostly about girls and the troubles of being a teenager. Still this is a very good record by a band who were still starting out and finding their feet at the time with some actually very good songs. At The Library, Why Do You Want Him, Paper Lanterns, 409 In Your Coffeemaker and Only of You are all excellant songs. I would recommend this album to any Green Day fan! Summary: A worthy Green Day album for any fan |
