Advantages: good indie-pop
Disadvantages: a bit dated
Carter hit it big here with this album. This was probably their greatest moment and at the time were receiving great press in the NME and Melody Maker. Jim Bob and Fruitbat came in for their second album laughing. The front cover of the album could be seen by loads of indie kids sporting the T-shirt along with the fashionable undercut hair favoured by Jim-Bob. The album opens with the chant "you fat bastard, you fat bastard etc" that traditionally opened all their gigs and is now heard at football grounds everywhere. As a kid you felt hard listening to them. The best songs are: the great drinking song "anytime, anyplace, anywhere" which is basically about boozing. It couples a cheesy drum machine backing to the usual lyrical "landan" style from the boys. "shoppers paradise" which is just a great pop song. "bloodsport for all" about life in the army. A bit more menacing this one and good live. The album closes with 2 slow numbers which round it all off nicely. I literally found this tape a few weeks ago having not listened to it for about 7 years and it sounded naff the first time, but having listened to it again sounds increasingly better. In fact I like it.

- 18/05/01 1992 The Love Album was their finest hour in my humble opinion...if nothing else for the hilrious cover of The Impossible Dream. Thanx for the memories.. :) |

- 18/05/01 i used to be a huge Carter fan - going to see them in concert umpteen times. It was a bit odd as girls were not very common at Carter concerts. I think I've out grown them now and they do sound rather dated. Great at the time though! |
