Advantages: Some fantastic original songs and Remixes present.

Disadvantages: The Book readings are slightly OTT and don't fit the tracklist well.

This CD is definitley a bit of a puzzle. Partly a Remix EP and partly a preview for Emilie's book "The Asylum For Wayward Victorian Girls", there's quite a considerable amount of material covered here.

The original tracks show how diverse Emilie's taste in music is. "4 O'Clock" is a piece that combines electronics with her trademark violing to create a sound that immediatley makes you think of Steampunk literature and drawings. "My Fairweather Friend" could easily be a demo from Amanda Palmer's solo album (being a fan of Palmer, thats high praise indeed) and then there's the jaw-dropping track "Organ Grinder". Think of Apocalyptica covering an instrumental death metal song while experimenting with electronics, and you have this little gem. Awesome.

But it's the remixes that really shine here. The track "Swallow" gets the remix treatment twice here, firstly an electronic mix by Perfidious Words, which is mellow and chilled. Then there's the remix by EBM veterans Punto Omega, who do wonders with the track by giving it a club feel without losing the lush vocals and violin sound that defines the song. However, the Remixes are let down by the Sieben remix of "Gothic Lolita", which just sounds bizarre.

The album ends with some audio extracts from her book, and while the book sounds like an interesting read her voice sounds far removed for the usual dark and sexy vocals of her music and instead sound almost like a parody of herself. The hidden track after the last extract, however, shows another side to Emilie; the hidden track being a dirty electro ditty called It Is My Body.

Overall this is an incredibly diverse EP. Although the Book extracts do disrupt the flow of the CD, some of the songs hidden on this EP are just fantastic, and if you're a fan of The Dresden Dolls or anything a little dark and gothic, you should definitley give this a listen.

Summary: Some real gems are hidden in this album, definitley worth a listen.
