Overcome - Alexandra Burke ... you will have seen the title of my review and that I am about to review a CD that has been made by and ex X Factor contestant. Many people have many different opinions on CD s and music that have been produced by people that have been born from a reality TV Show, I myself have often watched the X Factor but never felt strongly enough about voting or having a favourite, the X Factor just made good TV on a Saturday night! One Day Less - Before the Rain ... portuguese doom metal band Before The Rain s debut full length One Day Less was released in 2007 it largely went unnoticed, which is something of a shame as its an absolutely cracking album. One Day Less borrows the lethargic and romantic gothic doom style evidenced by the likes of My Dying Bride and Mourning Beloveth whilst mixing it with the melancholy gothic rock stylings of later Katatonia, whilst the vocals too are a mix of My Dying Bride s lamenting growls and Katatonia s despondent clean singing. Indeed, the epic 18 minute closer and title track borders on Katatonia worship whilst still sounding fresh and inventive, whilst the vocals sound so similar to ... Closing Time - Tom Waits ... Waits debut Closing Time appears unique in his recording career. Beginning as a folky singer songwriter playing the piano and sometimes the guitar he went on to putting on a funny voice for a majority of the rest of his career. Closing Time s signature song if you will might have been I Hope That I Don t Fall In Love With You , a guitar ballad in which Tom citing his distaste for faling love and chronicling his doing so involuntarily in the end. His ability to tell stories with his song is evident in all his compositions on the album.
