801 Live is a somewhat obscure, curious addition to the back catalogues of Brian Eno and one time Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera. Eno had already left Roxy Music by the time in 1976 that Manzanera put together this short lived live band (short lived by design rather than due to lack of success) that played but a few live gigs and eventually would release 801 Live. What is odd about the album is that though it is Manzanera?s band it is fuelled almost entirely by Brian Eno, or at least that is the way that the album feels.
