... must admit, I wasn t a huge fan of Take-That in the 90s. I think this had most to do with my age (I m 19 now, and was only 7 or 8 when they broke up), though I do remember rushing out and buying their last album when I heard they were splitting up. Blink-182 - blink-182 ... wasn t a fan of Blink-182 until after they d split up. To be honest, I hadn t heard much of their stuff, or had heard songs that I didn t know were theres. Whenever "Always" came on the radio however, I thought it was a great song. I also liked "I Miss You". Anyway, my friends really liked Blink-182 and were always talking about them, so one day whilst on holiday, I was in HMV, and I decided to buy two Blink 182 CD s- "Take Off Your Pants And Jacket" and the self-titled one that I am reviewing now. Holst - The Planets; Egdon Heath, Op. 47 ... Holst is probably a composer of whom you have heard of before, but don’t necessarily have a very clear picture of his overall oeuvre. His family was originally of Swedish origin (then called von Holst) who migrated to England in the mid-19th Century. Gustav was then born in Cheltenham in 1874, but had somewhat of a miserable childhood due to being oversensitive, having weak eyesight and suffering from asthma, not to mention neuritis in his hands which hindered his want of learning to play the piano. Easy Pieces - Lloyd Cole and the Commotions ... in 1985, it wasn’t all synths and silly haircuts. There were bands that played ‘real’ instruments and crafted songs and were still considered pop. It wasn’t all grinning Stock Aitken and Waterman stable mates either, as there were several gloomier bands around for those who like that sort of thing, the sublime Cure, the magnificent Smiths and errr, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions. No, seriously.
