100 Hits - 70's ... hits from the seventies. I admit, not my preferred choice of musical decade as it all seemed to be glam rock or disco and punk as well of course. Am I being too judgemental, is there more to the seventies than those three genres? There are five discs here and for just over five quid you are getting a lot of music for your money. The Nolans start the album in cheery and camp fashion with Im In The Mood. A short burst of pop which will please any middle aged woman at any naff disco. Boney M I can pass on though, Brown Girl In The Ring is just one step too far in a cheesy direction and all the clapping in it makes my blood boil. Andrew Gold is much more enticing, ... Greatest Hits Of The 90's ... lovely green front cover to this CD. The sleeve gets zero points straight away, so let s hope the track offering is slightly better. There are three discs here and a whopping 54 songs, so for just over five quid you are getting pretty good value for money. Louise kicks us off. Arms Around The World is not a strong start to the album. Her voice is too wishy washy and being pretty isn t enough to make me like her music. Much better is the feisty Wannabe by the Spices, good old fashioned girl power with a hook to die for and such good fun. More pop bases are covered with Billie, Geri Halliwell and Eternal. Almighty: The Definitive Collection Vol. 2 ... Almighty collection sinks to exciting new depths with this little beast. The Definitive Collection 2 gathers ten songs on disc one and then we get an eighteen track megamix on the second disc. Expect high nrg camp euro nonsense, designed for the cheesy clubs. Up first is a synth workout with Claudia Williams. Hands Up would invigorate a floor and there is some pleasing filtering on the song before the vocals arrive. Belle Lawrence turns in a stormer on I Begin To Wonder. This revamps the Dannii Minogue s song, adding a pulsating bassline and a good set of kick drums, though lacks the sexy vocal from Minogue.
